8. I-Robots – Respect Ft. Kathy Brown (Radio Version)

Italian production wizard I-Robots has remade the classic ‘Respect’ and had it remixed by deep house master Atjazz and Alex Neri from Planet Funk on this super new package on his Opilec Music label.

Whatever this label does, there is always a real sense of history and culture, which is confirmed again here. ‘Respect’ was written by Otis Redding in 1965 and became a global hit and signature song for Aretha Franklin in 1967. But in 1988, Adeva changed its key and flipped it into a garage house classic that now gets remade by I-Robots featuring the legendary Kathy Brown with The It/Jungle Wonz man and Chicago master Harry Dennis also appearing.

Their Paradise Garage inspired version opens up and is eight glorious minutes of elastic, floor-filing and dazzling disco house. The bassline is tough, the vocals packed with attitude, and the synth work brings real light. It’s a timeless track that brings any dance floor to its knees.

Alex Neri is a true legend from Planet Funk and Kamasutra and is head of Tenax Recordings and Wildflower Records in his native Italy. His take is awash with majestic melodies and shimmering synths that lift you off your feet. The house drums are heavyweight, and the bassline is a real standout that takes us back to the future.

Atjazz is a longtime Afro and jazzy deep house musician from the UK with a fulsome back catalogue and a unique signature sound. His remix is late night and deep, with woozy chords and a seductive vocal perfect for those intimate moments. He also serves up a dub, instrumental and Acapella, so there is something for all situations.

This is another essential package of classically-inspired but contemporary house and disco from I-Robots and Opilec Music. The August 3rd release date is chosen to coincide with I-Robots birthday and the sttrikign artwork for this release comes courtesy of Artefract/Tim Paulvè FR.

Armani, Fitzpatrick & Way ‘V-Series: Chicago Connex EP’

Artist: Armani, Fitzpatrick & Way
Title: V-Series: Chicago Connex EP
Label: V-Series / EPMmusic
Cat. #: EPMVS01
Format: Digital
Release Date: 12 August 2022
Tracklist:
1. Lester Fitzpatrick – ’10/31/70′
2. Robert Armani – ‘Object’
3. Oliver Way – ‘Notorious’
4. Oliver Way – ‘Shuffle Rush’

EPM launches a new subsidiary label under the banner of “V-Series”, standing for Vintage: a golden era of Techno in the 90s and early 2000s before the digital era took over. As we dig in the vaults for over-looked gems and hidden classics, we remaster releases from this time that have previously only been available on vinyl, bringing them into the digital age.

The first EP in the series is the ‘Chicago Connex EP’ which was originally released on Oliver Way’s Morpheus Productions back in 2000 with Robert Armani (Dance Mania / ACV / Traxman) and fellow Chicago producer Lester Fitzpatrick (Relief / Naked Lunch / Urban Kickz).

Lester Fitzpatrick launches with a steam train of a kick drum that spins off into a disorientating sweat soaked vortex of off-kilter, industrial Chi-town jack for a truly unique roof-raiser!

Robert Armani follows with his classic signature sound of distorted Chicago drums and minimal twisted beats, as the snare rides through twisted filtered frequencies for the dancefloor journey that is ‘Object’.

The EP is then rounded off by two of Oliver Way’s own Chicago influenced productions – ‘Notorious’ which was originally released under the pseudonym Morpheus Productions, takes part of an Armani answer machine message and adds that distinctive hard Chicago Techno sound. Oliver’s second track ‘Shuffle Rush’ was originally released on ‘Electronic Sockets Pt 3’ in 1999 via Urban Substance that Oliver ran with Dublin promoter JDP and brings a more linear minimal techno feel to this Windy City embracing release.

Ultra Pool

“Ultra Pool is a selection of club tracks I started making as lockdown restrictions were being lifted and shows started rolling in again. Over the last few years, I’ve been revisiting a lot of the french house records I used to listen to as a teenager – I wanted to let that influence shine through as I’m a huge fan of that sound. I wanted a body of work that was both very high energy and harmony-heavy, and I think Ultra Pool is the perfect way to summarise where my head is at right now” – salute
