Compilation briefing: the ‘Ciao Italia. Generazioni Underground’ installment comes to its second edition, this project curated by the label Rebirth features again a great collection of oldschool productions, representing the house/techno explorative process happened in Italy during the 90s. Compared to the first edition released in 2021, the songs selected in this one are focused to the melodies: in the majority of the themes we can find synths, strings and chords which gladdens the listening and arouse a dreamy state of mind.
Artist: Johan S & Oliver Knight Title: Get Weak Label: Adesso Music Cat. #: am23 Format: Digital Release Date: January 27th 2023 Tracklist: Extended Mix Radio Edit
Jonas S meets again his partner in crime Oliver Knight for the creation of ‘Get Weak’, forthcoming soon on Adesso Music this single is a hot and catchy tech house theme, which features a catchy style and a typical dancefloor infused sound. Even if the song has a short duration, it concentrates a high energy to get spreaded during the playback.
Artist: Carly Wilford Title: The Awakening Label: Armada Subjekt Cat. #: ARSBJKT189 Format: Digital Release Date: January 20th 2023 Tracklist: 1. Extended Mix 2. Radio Mix
Carly Wilford is a rising artist from UK, one of the many new promising names in the house/techno scene. After getting released many times on the top trending label Toolroom, she debuts on Armada Subjekt with the single track ‘The Awakening’: compared to her previous productions this one features an infectious and savage vibe, reflecting the artist’s receptive and open minded approach to music creation.
Artist: Dave Mayer & Deeplomatik Title: Hustle Tribes (The Deepshakerz Remix) Label: Adesso Music Cat. #: AM20R Format: Digital Release Date: January 20th 2023 Tracklist: 1. Hustle Tribes (The Deepshakerz Remix)
Adesso Music starts over this year with a nice set of single releases, here we go with the second one published: a remix made by Domy Berardino and Mirco Sonatore under their The Deepshakerz alias, takingcare of ‘Dave Mayer & Deeplomatik – Hustle Tribes’. The original features a typical vibe of 2000s tribal and progressive styles, a sound proposed by artist such as Dj Simi, Chus & Ceballos, Satoshi Tomiie and many more (we cannot fail to mention the Angels Of Love or Colazione Da Tiffany parties made in Italy in those years). The interpretation is faithful to the original and elevates the potential of the instrumental setup.
Artist: Operator Title: Carbon Towers EP Label: Symbolism Cat. #: SYMDIGI027 Format: Digital Release Date: 27th January 2023 Tracklist 01 Operator 02 Surface Shimmer 03 The Hanging Edge 04 The Hidden
Operator joins Ben Sims’ Symbolism label with the ‘Carbon Towers’ EP.
A mainstay of the Mord label in recent years, Operator’s debut four-track EP for Symbolism takes in peak time panel-beaters, a warm chord-driven groover and sinister broken beats.
The title track’s concentrated soundscapes make for an imposing opener, but one that uses its density to maximum effect, particularly in its memorable breakdown. ‘Surface Shimmer’s lush keys and crisp, almost sharp, drums follow in classy style while the cinematic and decidedly ‘noir’ tone of ‘The Hanging Edge’ counterpoints intricate percussion and a broken groove before the moody power of ‘The Hidden’ rounds out the EP.
DJ Bone, Helena Hauff Invites, DJ Stingray 313, Objekt, Anz, Dr Banana, Donato Dozzy, Hieroglyphic Being (live), The Ghost, Freakenstein, Josey Rebelle, Nicolas Lutz, Paquita Gordon, Roza Terenzi b2b D Tiffany, Truly Madly, XDB, Youandewan, Zip, Iration Steppas, Fumiya Tanaka, DJ Perception, Gene On Earth, Dyed Soundorom and tens more all play

Artist: Made By Pete, Zoe Kypri Title: Horizon Red Label: Crosstown Rebels Cat. #: CRM285 Format: Digital / Vinyl Release Date: 20th January 2023 Tracklist 1) Horizon Red 2) Horizon Red (Pete’s Dub)
Made By Pete returns to Crosstown Rebels as he links up with Zoe Kypri for the anthemic ‘Horizon Red’.
Born and raised in London, DJ and producer Made By Pete has flourished in recent years, making appearances around the globe from Set Underground (Tulum) and fabric (London) to Off Week (Barcelona) and beyond. Gaining plaudits from leading names in Damian Lazarus, Keinemusik and Pete Tong, to name just a few, the UK talent has crafted a string of stand-out releases via the likes of Flying Circus, RADIANT and Crosstown Rebels. Having first touched down on the imprint in 2018 alongside Jem Cooke for ‘So Long’, with two further appearances since, he opens the label’s 2023 schedule alongside R&B, jazz and Neo-soul singer/songwriter Zoe Kypri for the gripping sonics of ‘Horizon Red’ – with the track set to be remixed by label boss Damian Lazarus in the coming weeks.
“We caught each other’s attention whilst playing sets at Tobacco Dock in London, and the admiration was mutual. We knew we wanted to create something that evoked feelings of the afterglow. That dissonant feeling at sunset when the horizon is so fiercely beautiful, yet the inevitability of the day falling behind the mountains is near. A simultaneous beginning and end.” – Made By Pete & Zoe Kypri.
A dynamic track guided by rich chords, rolling organic percussion and Kypri’s powerful yet graceful vocals, ‘Horizon Red’ is a euphoric and captivating journey balancing energetic builds with deeper moments, while Pete’s Dub strips things back as spiralling synths and hazy atmospheres take hold for a late-night trip.
