Techno mainstay Uncertain lands on Ilario Alicante’s Virgo label with his potent new ‘Anger’ EP.

Austrian DJ/producer Uncertain, formerly known as Boriqua Tribez, has been a driving underground techno force for decades. He is well-versed in classic sounds but always brings fresh influences and tells real musical stories, both in the studio and the DJ booth, where his sets regularly span three decks. He’s had support from the likes of Richie Hawtin, Ben Sims, Truncate and Radio Slave, amongst many, and has released over 50 EPs and remixes on labels such as Rekids, Mind Medizin, UNCAGE and Kneaded Pains. Next, he heads to Ilario Alicante’s techno-focused label Virgo, unveiling four impactful cuts to work the floor across his new ‘Anger’ EP.

‘Anger’ kicks off and is a full-throttle techno bouncer with clanging industrial hits and oversized hi-hats that almost drown you in sound. Serene synths bring the soul to this most physical of tracks. ‘Divine’ is just as urgent, with old school early Detroit tech energy, driving synth lines and euphoric vocal fragments all sweeping you off your feet and racing into the future. The superb ‘Toxic’ then melts the mind with its molten synths which wrap themselves around the hammering machine funk of the drums, before closing out with the dub mix of ‘Divine’, a hard-hitting cut designed for maximum impact.

Following the latest ‘Hidden Gems’ compilation, Heist Recordings now brings you the best of the remixes in 10 years of the label. For this release, Dam Swindle have curated some of the most ear-catching reinterpretations on the label from 2013 through to 2022, showing just how genre-defining the label has been.

Where Cinthie’s remix of Dam Swindle’s 2018 album cut ‘Call of the wild feat. Jungle by Night’ has the Berlin-based producer in full-on house mode, DJ Boring’s remix from 2019 shows us a more ravey, percussive big room version of Perdu’s anthem ‘Jane’s World’. There’s a massive vocal cut by NDATL label boss Kai Alcé of a Hugo Mari track and a naughty remix by Soulphictionof one of our favourite Alma Negra tracks, ‘Endless Summer’.

The compilation holds more aces by artists such as Prins Thomas, who provides an excellent disco perspective on Dam Swindle’s cut ‘Coffee in the morning’ feat. Jitwam. Elsewhere, Kush Jones, Black Loops, Girls of the Internet and Retromigration all share their top-quality reworks of Heist originals.

Nowadays a lot of house or techno classics are being revisited, with official remixes, covers and bootlegs. While listening to this massive collaboration between Illyus & Barrientos, Jude & Frank, Lohrasp Kansara and Adam Clay our mind go back in 2001 when Deepswing released ‘In The Music’, a timeless and great production. In this contemporary revisitation the artists pay attention on the main lyrics, and obviously on the instrumental which is filled with a rolling bassline. The overall result is fascinating and catchy, it’s a track to be played everywhere which spreads positive emotions.

Italian DJ/producer Marco Faraone returns to Rekids this August with ‘Any Good Vibe?’

Tuscany-born, Barcelona-based Marco Faraone runs the UNCAGE label and event series, where he showcases the breadth and depth of his tastes. Returning to Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint after multiple appearances on the label, ‘Any Good Vibe?’ sees Faraone bring another potent EP of stylish techno.

Leading the A-side is the title cut, with yelping vocals and flaming percussion all adding to the wild energy of the track. The superb ‘Ego Kills’ follows, with swinging drums, chord stabs, and dubbed-out stylings that suit it to sweaty back rooms. Rounding out the release is ‘Ghana’, a heavy techno groove layered up with plenty of percussion, urgent synth sounds, and a vocal that adds unease to the intense atmosphere.

Techno maestro DEAS returns to Planet Rhythm with the Tanzhaus EP

DEAS doesn’t hold back in the ‘Tanzhaus’ EP. The Bau Muzik label boss joins Rotterdam imprint Planet Rhythm for his eighth release on the label, ‘Black Air’ storming in with pounding drums, hi-hats hissing and crackling among looming clouds of dub-chords, occasionally interrupted by the flash of electrifying plucks. The title track of the ‘Tanzhaus EP’ continues, the space between its kicks filled with hypnotic, droning percussion while bleeps playfully dance throughout the dancefloor madness.

‘Dark Line’ is next, a brooding trip featuring imposing melodics and shadowy, skittering sequences. This is a mysterious, spellbinding techno offering from the CLR, A R T S and ARA artist, expertly demonstrated in ‘Cut’, which drops the curtain in mind-melting, raw techno fashion. Planet Rhythm drops another not-to-miss package from the sought-after Polish artist, showcasing his groove-laden production style already supported by the likes of RichieHawtin, Amelie Lens, Rodhad, Marcel Dettmann, Ancient Methodsand many more.

Tibi Dabo returns with ‘Overture’, a third tantalising single from his forthcoming Crosstown Rebels album, with remixes from Map.ache and Aline Umber.

The first two singles from the project, ‘Triple Frontier’ and ‘Licht’, have shown what Barcelona’s Tibi Dabo is all about – forward-thinking electronic music with original drums (a result of him having toured the globe with his band) and plenty of cosmic twists and character. A label favourite having dropped his ‘Isla’ EP on Crosstown Rebels back in 2022, ahead of his much-anticipated debut LP comes this third superb taster from it.

The superb ‘Overture’ is an eight-minute gem with super smooth percussion and elastic grooves, with wispy sci-fi chords and gentle synth modulations. It’s full of future feels and catchy drum funk that is sophisticated and smartly detailed with chopped- up vocal fragments.

First to remix is Leipzig’s Map.ache, co-founder of Kann Records and member of the Giegling family. His take builds with fatter drums that are just as infectious, while rippling synth loops weave in and out as flashy basslines cut loose and balmy pads add extra cosmic absence to a hypnotic mix of the heady and the physical.

Aline Umber, a collaborative live project from French composers, producers and DJs Aline Brooklyn and Aman Umber, are second to remix. They run the Airfunk label and are no stranger to playing cult spots like Rex Club in Paris. Their ‘23% Eventide’ mix is a blissed-out and synth-laced trip with subtle, smeared chords and starry-eyed keys that have you gazing off into the distance as you get lost in the warm drums.

Camille Jones’ ‘The Creeps’ is a popular song released in 2005, it became an instant classic thanks to the Fedde Le Grand remix made in 2007. After 18 years from its born the theme gets a remix treatment by the minds of Brent Anthony and Act On. Their interpretation is catchy and dancefloor oriented, it also introduces the bassline used in the original and some other small synth samples, adaptating that typical infectious vibe into a contemporary and phat instrumental.
