Squire ‘Rebel Wisdom’

Artist: Squire
Title: Rebel Wisdom
Label: Get Physical Music
Cat. #: GPM564
Release Date: 7th February 2020
Tracklist:
01 Squire – Inner World
02 Squire – Indicus

Get Physical turn to Spanish artist Squire for a pair of tracks that show the fast-rising star could be one of the breakouts of 2020.

Squire was brought up on jazz before getting into house sounds, and always keeps his grooves deep and emotive. With one eye on history but one foot heading forwards he has released on this label as well as Kindisch, Behrouz’s Do Not Sit On The Furniture and My Favorite Robot Records amongst many more. This has taken him to clubs around Europe and even Burning Man, Space Ibiza and BPM Festival.

Tasteful house opener ‘Inner World’ is a sublime seven-minute opus with cinematic drama in the synths and effects that light up the drums. They are firmly rooted to the floor and get you in the zone and keep you there for the duration as a storytelling lead plots its own adventurous path with a hint of Middle Eastern melancholy.

The excellent ‘Indicus’ is a spine-tingling deep house track with more majestic synths and chords up top. They are brightly coloured and laden with a rollercoaster of emotions that makes this a hugely accomplished production that is again finished with some subtle Middle Eastern sounding vocal chanting.

This is assured and atmospheric house music as ever from Squire.

Body Language Vol. 22 by Pezzner

Artist: Various
Title: Body Language Vol. 22 by Pezzner
Label: Get Physical Music
Cat. #: GPMCD221
Release Date: 31st January 2020

After teasing it with a series of superb singles, Get Physical will finally unleash Pezzner’s much-anticipated Body Language mix in January 2020.

A longtime label associate, Pezzner writes, composes and teaches electronic music to a consistently high standard and releases it on Visionquest and Freerange amongst others. He has been right at the heart of Get Physical for a couple of years now, and in October and November 2019 the first singles from this mix were released to a great reception. Pezzner now joins a roll call of previous Body Language inductees who include M.A.N.D.Y., Modeselektor, DJ T., Francesco Tristano, Dixon, DJ Hell and Junior Boys.

Here the studio wizard serves up a few special Body Language remixes of Arnold From Mumbai and A.Treasure, as well as his own fresh new originals which are typically absorbing house grooves. Next to that he draws on Get Physical’s main man Roland Leesker and frequent label artists Jazzuelle & Lazarusman, all to help him paint a contemporary house picture that offers a wealth of emotion.

There are plenty of highlights here such as the tenderness of Andromo & Chris Fortier’s ‘Pocket Full Of Wonder’ whilst Chick Iverson’s ‘Alright’ does a fine job of picking up the pace in the midsection. Pezzner is always in control of the mix, balancing the tech drums with the sort of emotional synths needed to keep you locked, and a pair of back to back tracks from Fritz Carlton – firstly with Ghostea, then with Player Dave – brings some wonkiness to the mix.

Pezzner then pops up again with the cavernous house depths of his collaboration with Jon Lee, and it is Thomas Gandey & Radio Slave who then lift you from that and into a melodic trance with their standout remix of Francesco Tristano before some fantastically funky disco house riffs from Tomasz Guiddo & Piro feat. Arnold Kasar keep the party moving.

This is a terrific mix of forward-looking house music that reaffirms both Pezzner and Get Physical’s status.

“Zoi’s EP on TRAUM!

Zoi (CA) is one part of the duo Talal & Zoi. Born in Pakistan Zoi is based in Toronto now a city which has shaped his music into what it is today. Zoi started out his music career with T&Z (Talal & Zoi), they had chart-topping releases and was featured on labels such as Dirtybird, Kindisch, Moodfamily, Rawthentic and For the People. The duo is also known to have delivered performances at Kater Blau (Berlin, DE), Keizer Park open air (Ghent, BE), Bushwick’s Bogart House (Brooklyn, NY), and Electric Island (Toronto, CA).

Zoi’s solo career started two years ago since then he has released fantastic outstanding deep music on two of our Tour De Traum releases. This put him on our list of people we were keen to release with. The remixers on the release have also been striking with their single tracks on our label and contribute different interpretation of Zoi’s music.

“Fusion” by Zoi (CA)

The EP kicks off with the track “Fusion” and it is in fact a glorious fusion. This track draws on the sensitive mind lurking within and will get you in the mood for a voyage. The track has an atmospheric starting point and then travels far beyond it as it flawlessly navigates you way through retro-futurist landscapes, using restraint to explore the melodic and abstract. Once you have engaged yourself in this travel you will be rewarded with a sound uniquely expressive, yet subtly arranged variant of deep left field house music-music that takes you by the hand and never puts a sonic means before its aesthetic goal.

“Fusion” Vanity In Mind Remix

The alchemy of the remix of “Fusion” by Vanity In Mind instantly ties his ideas to the movement of beat and crosses all sorts of terrain without ever loosing the plot. Vanity In Mind uses the pristine sound of the original but releases the magic in a different way. This in an aural pleasure.

“Fusion” Deeplomat & Dublatov Remix

Deeplomat & Dublatov’s remix of “Fusion” tears apart the original featuring an unexpected juxtaposition of sounds and textures relying on a jam session esthetic where you never know what to expect next. Listen to this coruscating live performance!

“Fade” by Zoi (CA)

“Fade” in the original mix kicks off with wailing pads and vintage funky drum patterns against the backdrop of quirky fast moving tones and might have gotten its inspiration from Brazilian music in the way it moves. This track at its peak is nimble but it never feels too busy. It is simply driving and sensual. Only Zoi could pull off this palette so gracefully.

“Fade” Floyd Hoogendijk Remix

“Fade” in the Floyd Hoogendijk remix has a less encompassing feel to it as in the original but develops into a sensual soundtrack of a superlative that could have been featured in some of the greatest French movies of the 70ies. Showing exceptional treats of melancholia as we understand them in Europe. This can send a chill up your spine.

“Fade” CtlZ’s Remix

CtlZ’s remix of “Fade” gives the track an epic edge the original did not aim at. The remix is filled with unexpected details like breaks and speedy sounds… you’d never expect them to fit but they do like a glove.

“Fade” Florian Gallet Remix

Florian Gallet has in the past written one of the most exceptional ambient tracks on Tour De Traum and we have asked to remix “Fade”. Florian’s poetic approach is unparalleled. His simplicity also makes this remix a masterpiece.

“Awake” by Zoi (CA)

The third original is “Awake” and connects perfectly to the other tracks as it is uniquely expressive and atmospheric capturing the listenerʼs attention in.

“Ajeep” by Zoi (CA)

“Ajeep” is maybe the most classic house track on this EP with its vintage chords but the break down half time is exceptionally beautiful and reveals Zoi’s full talent from then on, till the end of the track.

“Somewhere” by Zoi (CA)

On Traum it is a tradition to ask the artist for an abstract bonus track so here it is with “Somewhere”. The track is beautiful in the way the melodies are played, the perfect timing each note is exercised with. It is off-kilter as all tracks on this EP and very special.
