Monticulefestival.com

Heading into its sixth year, Monticule finalises its stunning lineup for 2020. Having already announced a tantalising selection of names, the festival welcomes further talent from across the dance music spectrum, featuring showcases from an array of influential labels and the scene’s most exciting trailblazers. With activities away from the dancefloor also on offer, Monticule continues to boast a diverse and global programme for all attendees that’s simply not to be missed.

The previously announced and eagerly anticipated Malka Tuti showcase expands to 24 hours, with I’m A Cliché label boss Cosmo Vitelli and Hugo Capablanca joining the likes of Khidja, Asaf Samuel & Katzele, Shari Vari live, Full Circle, Fantastic Twins live and Optimo (Espacio) in taking dancers on a dizzying and ambitious trip across day and night. The unmissable showcases continue, as the pioneering Zozo, mesmeric Eva Geist live and Sacha Mambo play in the prestigious name of Macadam Mambo and Andrea live, Zenker Brothers and Surgeon represent the iconic Ilian Tape sound, the latter having just released the twisted techno of The Golden Sea EP on the imprint earlier this month.

Acclaimed Berghain resident Efdemin makes his Monticule debut and it’s destined to be one for the history books, while supreme selector Lauren Hansom touches down to showcase her vast record collection and strictly individual spirit with Multi Culti boss Dreems demonstrating his “multiply your mind” label ethos with thrilling results. Berlin’s LackRec crew is well supported thanks to slots for Fadi Mohem, Marie Montexier and Victor, along with Benedikt Frey, who will treat dancers to his unique channeling of electro. DJ Dustin and Vlada from Giegling will make appearances across the weekend, as well as activist of the Såo Paulo LGBTQ scene, Cashu, whose politically-charged set should make for a festival highlight.

Further features can be found away from the dancefloor and within Monticule’s quieter corners, as the nearby swimming hole and picturesque waterfall entices weary dancers to take a peaceful dip or limber up during yoga lessons. Thrill seekers can get to grips with a skateboard mini rap, while festival goers can also tap into their creative side through painting workshops or turn their gaze to the sky with astronomy classes.

Only 1h30 drive from Toulouse, festival-goers can also sample the famed cuisine and wine of the area at their leisure, with local producers and food trucks serving up the tastiest grub throughout the 5 day stay.

5 day tickets for Monticule Festival are now 149€ + booking fee. 3 days weekend ticket and group tickets also available.

Amotik ‘Vistār Remixes’

Artist: Amotik
Title: Vistār Remixes
Remixer: Ellen Allien, Anthony Linell, Tensal
Label: Amotik
Cat. #: AMTKLP1RMX
Release Date: 7th February 2020 (Vinyl) / 21st February 2020 (Digital)
Format: Vinyl & Digital
Tracklist:
1. Amotik – Chautis (Anthony Linell Remix)
2. Amotik – Paintis (Tensal Remix)
3. Amotik – Tetalis (Ellen Allien Remix)

Ellen Allien, Anthony Linell and Tensal remix tracks from Amotik’s Vistār LP on his self-titled imprint.

After moving to Berlin in 2014, Amotik has been steadily building a base in the city that significantly inspired him. Having developed a unique style of atmospheric techno with a relentless raw undertone, his consistency as both a DJ and producer has seen him perform at some of the most exciting clubs and festivals around the globe. Amotik delivered his first full-length double vinyl LP on his Amotik label earlier in 2019 which will be accompanied by a debut live tour to end the year. The album features 10 tracks with elements of ambient, broken beats, textured soundscapes but has its foundations firmly rooted in techno and invites remixes from heavyweights Ellen Alien, Anthony Linell and Tensal.

Presiding over Stockholm’s Northern Electronics label with Varg, Anthony Linell aka Adbullah Rashim dispenses a deep, hypnotic approach which can be heard on releases on Northern Electronics, Semantica Records and Abdulla Rashim Records. Anthony’s remix of ‘Chautis’ deploys his meditative production style to great effect through shimmering low end, glistening synths and alleviating elements.

Spanish producer Tensal who has over fifty releases on labels such as Polegroup, Modularz, Mord, Falling Ethics, Arcing Seas, Kynant, Float, Ownlife, Soma, Attic, Propaganda and his own Tensal Records imprint, gears his remix of ‘Paintis’ towards a modern, raw sounding number through crunchy oscillations, thudding kick drums and obscure yet brain-tickling atmospheres.

Berlin’s Ellen Allien has been at the forefront of the techno scene for many years adopting a style that sees her blend and weave between mesmerising Berlin techno, acid, freak jack slammers and classics which can be heard on her BPitch Control imprint, as well as her remix of ‘Tetails’ which adopts sharp rhythms, entrancing leads, dramatic yet euphoric leads filled with nostalgia to round off this remix package with majestic style.

Lead cut ‘Smiles’ sees Macagone combine slick organic production licks alongside bright synth stabs and resonant vocal hooks, before ‘This Is Power’ reveals a series of hazy lead melodies atop of skipping drums and further slick vocal work. Rising talents within the world of house music, 2019 is a year in which Dutch duo Jesse van der Heijden and Oguzhan Guney, aka ANOTR, soared into the limelight following a string of stand-out releases and appearances at notable institutions including fabric and Printworks (London), Ushuaïa and Privilege (Ibiza), Lost Beach Club (Quito), and their own label nights at The Loft (Amsterdam). Following on from recent material via the likes of ORIGINS RCRDS, Moan, Hottrax, Inermu and Solid Grooves, late-February welcomes a return to their own blossoming No Art imprint as they deliver their latest EP ‘Don’t Mind Ya Weight’, featuring three classy, slinking cuts.

Claudio Ricci ‘Above My Head feat. Jinadu’

Artist: Claudio Ricci
Title: Above My Head feat. Jinadu
Label: Stripped Down
Cat. #: STRD011
Release Date: 14th February 2020
Tracklist:
1. Above Your Head (Original Version)
2. Above Your Head (Kollektiv Turmstrasse Remix)
3. Above Your Head (Jepe Remix)

5. Above Your Head (Jepe Bailando Remix)

Stripped Down kick off 2020 with a fresh new single from label boss Claudio Ricci that comes with a wealth of remixes from big names Kollektiv Turmstrasse and Jepe.

It was in summer 2019 that Ricci served up his last single here, and that one went on to become another classic in his arsenal. It comes after a life in dance music, appearing as a DJ at the likes of Shadows by Magdalena (Cova Santa), Blue Marlin and Zoo Project Ibiza, as well as a producer with credits on Compost, MoBlack and Connected. He is a master of emotionally charged dance music and shows that again here.

‘Above Your Head’ is elegant deep house with gentle chords washing over the grooves and vocals from Defected artist and London singer-songwriter Jinadu that send shivers down your spine. The whole thing is soft, lush and comforting, and will bring real moments of tenderness to any DJ set.

Regular label associates Kollektiv Turmstrasse are masters of melodic house who have proved their worth on Diynamic, Connaisseur and numerous other imprints. Their remix of ‘Above Your Head’ sends the vocals through some moody filters, layers in a little grit in the percussion and gets you in a trance with its rolling drums. They also turn in a more upright dub that allows the music to shine.

Berlin based, Portugal born Jepe has landed on Moodmusic and Connaisseur and is renowned for his deep, curious sounds. Here he flips the original into a majestic cut that is fuelled 80’s influenced sounds that serve to sweep up your heart. A Jepe Bailando remix closes the package with a superb house rendition driven on by tribal elements.

Once again from Stripped Down, these are classy house tracks are stuffed with very real feelings.

ELL057

Avision ‘Innocence EP’

Artist: Avision
Title: Innocence EP
Label: Ellum Audio
Cat. #: ELL057
Format: vinyl, digital
Release Date: 14th February 2020
Tracklist:
1. Innocence
2. Time lapse

Avision storms into 2020 in fine fashion with his first EP for Maceo Plex’s Ellum Audio label.

Playing the decks since just 12 years of age, this American artist grew up in the musically rich New York City scene and is now at the sharp end of it with his own new school techno sound. He has released on key labels like Ben Sims’ Hardgroove, Mark Broom’s Beardman and Teksupport, and is someone that icons like Adam Beyer and Chris Liebing often reach for in their own sets.

He starts off his latest offering with ‘Innocence’, a bustling techno track with bulky drum programming that is brilliantly loose. It jostles you into action as dark vocals add intensity and makes for a perfectly physical dance floor workout.

Keeping up the pressure is ‘Time Lapse’, with big hi hats and a driving bassline all interwoven with thundering kick drums that will get the whole club up on its toes. A rising synth in the background adds an air of cosmic exploration and means this tasteful techno trip is enthralling from start to finish.

These are two superbly stylish and high powered techno cuts from this contemporary tastemaker.

DGTL goes 100% circular – Amsterdam 2020

After making great strides in the field of circularity for years, electronic music festival DGTL is taking a crucial next step during its upcoming eighth edition. As a pioneer in the field of innovation and sustainability, DGTL has created a circular blueprint that can be applied to both a festival and a city. DGTL Amsterdam, which kicks off the festival season on April 11th and 12th at the NDSM Docklands, is, therefore, the world’s first electronic music festival that pursues full circularity.bothfestival and a city. DGTL full

The DGTL sustainability program has been running since 2013 and has been aimed from the outset to close cycles in the areas of energy, water & sanitation, food, commodities (waste) and mobility. As the aim this year is to close the entire DGTL circle, organisers have deemed the term ‘CYCLE’ their overarching theme for the 2020 edition. DGTL will close the cycles for a number of on-site systems, including energy, resources, water and sanitation.

Of course, DGTL remains first and foremost a music festival, and for years have been working with a sustainable way of programming, combining international headliners with local talent. With over 65 artists spread out over seven stages, DGTL focuses on deepening and broadening the music line-up. For the broader audience, the Modular and AMP stages create a real festival vibe. Connoisseurs and purists can find their way to the techno stage Generator or the more underground-focused Filter. An increasingly prominent part of the program is set up for live performances on the large LIVE stage. View the full line-up at https://dgtl.nl/artists/line-up.

COLLABORATION WITH THE CITY OF AMSTERDAM

It’s entirely feasible to view a festival as a temporary miniature version of a community. People work and consume, move, eat and sleep. Much like in a community there are all kinds of different flows such as money, energy, food, exchange of knowledge, water and creativity. For this reason, DGTL sees its festival terrain as a living lab for circular innovation in neighbourhoods and cities. By entering into partnerships with, among others, the City of Amsterdam and the Central Government, the festival takes on urban challenges on themes such as the energy transition and a new more sustainable form of sanitation.

ENERGY NEUTRAL

With regard to energy, the objective this year is simple: during show days, energy consumption must come entirely from renewable sources. This means from sun, wind or other inexhaustible sources. The City of Amsterdam has invested in the event facilities at the NDSM Docklands; for example, the construction of additional power boxes has increased access to the main power grid. This means that all energy-demanding parts of the festival – such as bars, lighting and the food court – can simply use the sockets on the NDSM Docklands for their power supply. DGTL’s energy system will be completely energy-neutral and emission-free during show days and the festival is parting ways with traditional diesel generators.

FROM URINE TO WATER, FROM POO TO COMPOST

DGTL has also started a pilot together with the City of Amsterdam, researchers, toilet suppliers and processors to realize a circular sanitary system at the event. Urine is converted into (gray) water and faeces are processed into compost. DGTL hopes that this pilot offers a blueprint which neighbourhoods, cities and the music and events industry can learn from.

PLANT-BASED MENU

After the introduction of a meat-free food court in 2016, in recent years DGTL has moved towards a menu consisting of rescued food and imperfect products. This year DGTL is taking a step further by offering a fully plant-based (vegan) menu put together by a select group of chefs.

MOBILITY

Another important spearhead is the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions as a result of mobility movements. By far the largest part of DGTL’s greenhouse gas emissions is caused by the travels of visitors. Artists’ flights, transport of suppliers and the use of machines during the festival build and dismantling process also produce emissions through burning fossil fuels. DGTL is closely looking at ways to make mobility (visitors, suppliers, artists) as efficient and sustainable as possible.

Regarding the fuel used for the machinery used during the set-up and breakdown of the event, DGTL will switch completely from diesel to biodiesel this year. With this, the festival reduces the CO2 emissions in that area by 89 per cent. This year, DGTL also focuses on making travelling by train attractive for both national and international visitors. The festival offers special ticket deals, promoting national and

international train transport when purchasing a ticket for DGTL Amsterdam. DGTL aims to direct as many visitors as possible towards travel by train instead of flight travel.

ABOUT DGTL:

DGTL is a global electronic music festival with editions in Amsterdam, Santiago (Chile), SaŢo Paulo (Brazil), Barcelona & Madrid (Spain), Tel Aviv (Israel), Bangalore (India) and during the Amsterdam Dance Event. Besides the focus on music, the organisation brings a mix of unique art installations and revolutionary sustainability projects. Their sustainability program distinguishes them within the festival landscape. For the full line-up and more information please visit www.dgtl.nl
