nervous records launch Brooklyn Sessions 2020 EP series featuring tracks by Ben Delay, Moullinex & Trutopia
Release Date: april 24th 2020
In its 29 year history, Nervous Records has built its reputation on a willingness to take chances on new producers, fresh sounds and innovative concepts. At a time when communication and collaboration between producers, artists and labels has become almost exclusively digital, Nervous decided to bring the creative process back to its roots, when creating a track meant all night writing sessions, 12 hour studio lock-outs and coffee runs that often detoured into all nightclubbing.
In 2018 the label had the idea of flying 3 separate producers from different parts of the world into the creative and musical hub of Brooklyn. That experience was so positive, and the resulting music so good, that a year later Nervous went in for Round 2. In September 2019, the label bought Germany’s Ben Delay, Lisbon’s Moullinex and UK duo Trutopia together into one NYC studio to record a body of work set to be released on April 24th, as part of the label’s new ‘Brooklyn Sessions’ EP series.
Drawing inspiration from the dying strands of a New York summer, the dark, throbbing spirit of the world’s most iconic city is evident across all four cuts appearing on EP1 of the series.
Opening up with the Trutopia and Moullinex collaboration ‘Galesa’, the production struts in and out of the central percussion, the single flexing and contracting relentlessly, carrying that iconic sense of drive and energy that is absolutely intrinsic to New York’s streets. On Trutopia’s solo track ’You Can Not Hold Back’, the composition bristles with energy, the British pair channeling vocalist’s Koffee’s topline across sleazy saxophone and funk-fuelled bass; on ‘Ergo’, Moullinex keeps things tight and taut, using carefully crafted snares, hi-hats, sweeping synths and a relentless, at times ominous percussion to create a dark, driving cityscape. On Ben Delay’s undulating, breathless ‘Brooklyn (Back In Time)’, which closes out the EP, wind instruments shimmers like steam rising from the city’s sidewalks as the beat grooves underneath like a rumbling subway train.
Since its 1991 inception Nervous Records has been at the very epicentre of New York’s house scene. Masters At Work, Armand Van Helden, David Morales, Tony Humphries, Josh Wink, Mood II Swing, Kerri Chandler, Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez and more have all passed through their doors, synonymous with the label, their work creating a rich tapestry that is still as much an influence today as it is a legacy in its own right.
Bringing new blood into the city and encouraging fresh collaborations between artists able to tap into the creative lifeblood of this vast, living, breathing megatropolis, Nervous Records’ dominance looks set to carry on well into its third decade.
Kiko Navarro shows through this album his experience and the contaminations that influenced his vision of eletronic music, the 12 tracks of ‘Afroterraneo’ put together house, tribal and deep house coherently and organically. These songs have been produced with the integration of vocals, an essential element which helps to bring warmth, also some ethnical instruments cheer the listening session, introducing unexpeted and imaginary scenarios. That’s positive and good to preserve musical styles like this, they can show the identity of many musicians, and offer an occasion to reunite different cultures and people under the power of music.
Artists: Various Title: Drumcode A-Sides Vol. 9 Label: Drumcode Cat: DC223 Format: Digital Release Date: April 27th, 2020 Tracklist: 1. Joyhauser – Fierceness 2. Dubfire – Deadbug 3. Drumcode slightly anticipates the publication of another compilation from the ‘A-Side’ series, the last episode was published in late September 2019, so after 9 months here we go again with another exposure from the label, which ventures ot its forthcoming sound orientation. In these 13 tracks we can find some names that already appeared on the Sweden imprint, while there are some other artists that bring some freshness to the typical Drumcode sound, that’s the case of Joyhauser who opens the tracklist with ‘Fierceness’, Balthazar & JackRock with their robotoid and metallic synths of ‘Red Village Disco Hustle’, and finally Oscar L’s ‘Dark Fate’ arouses melancholic feelings. Last but not least Dubfire appears on the compilation too with a particular track that shows a particular side of minimalistic techno.
Artists: Paul Hazendonk & Felix Raphael Title: Desires Label: Poesie Musik Remixer: Carlo Whale Cat: POM105 Format: Digital Release Date: May 1st, 2020 Tracklist: 1. Original Mix 2. Carlo Whale Remix
‘Desires’ is a new song proposed by Paul Hazendonk and Felix Raphael, it shares a sense of comprehension, mildness and sobriety, these are the distinctive elements that manifest the pride of Poesie Musik. Making a really good track like this should fullfill of emotions the artists, especially after years and years of true dedication on music production and deejaying. The EP is completed with a remix by Carlo Whale, who elevates the potential of the original theme with minimal edits on the drum loop and to the synths, playing with the main bassline and adding long tailed reverbs.
Artist: Stelios Vassiloudis Title: Videotape EP Label: Balance Music Cat. #: BALANCE009EP Format: Digital Release Date: 22nd May 2020 Tracklist:
Building Better Worlds
Supermodel
Tunnel Vision
Manual
Greek producer Stelios Vassiloudis joins up with Balance Music to release four deep, melodic cuts entitled ‘Videotape’ EP.
Hailing from Greece, Stelios Vassiloudis has always been operating on the fringes of what is considered progressive house. A quick glance at his discography will reveal an artist who has come a long way since those earlier releases on Bedrock. Today he’s making a name for himself as a highly cerebral practitioner of deep techno productions. On what might be Balance Music’s most noetic outing, Vassiloudis has crafted four immersive cuts that showcase his maturation as a highly-skilled engineer, and thoughtful producer. With this release, we expect the Greek’s profile to reach into new territories within dance music.
There is something ethereal emanating from ‘Building Better Worlds’. The atmosphere is so thick it hangs over the track like a dense mist, and it exudes comforting energy. It is deep techno in aesthetic, but progressive in its message, this is Stelios at his cerebral best.
As soon as the first soft thudding kick appears, you know that ‘Supermodel’ is something special. For the first three minutes, it builds a palpable tension that is only amplified by cleansing percussive hits and distant guitars. Once the thick and low bass synth arrives, you will feel a release that turns into euphoria, with every melodic movement. This is timeless electronic music.
‘Tunnel Vision’ presents something different. A softly tuned broken beat clears the way for elegant effects and a gently delivered robotic vocal. The bass feels like it could untether itself at any minute and float away, like a heavy yet flexible rubber balloon. There is something therapeutic about the whole experience that will demand repeated listens.
And, to round off the EP we have the 80s inspired electro stylings of ‘Manual’ featuring wavering synth patterns, delightful stabbing melodies and emotive chords that makes you feel like you are cruising the streets of Miami with Tubbs and Crockett…

Eli Soul Clap, one of the founders of EARTH NIGHT and early ambassador for DJs For Climate Action is one of the collective minds behind this event, which will be the largest global back-to-back (B2B) set on record. A demonstration of global collaboration
Sunday April 26th 2020
15:00 – 01:00 GMT / 10:00 – 20:00 EDT
On April 26th 2020, DJs For Climate Action (DJs4CA) will broadcast the largest global back-to-back (B2B) set on record, with over 100 DJs playing live from more than 50 cities worldwide in celebration of the third annual EARTH NIGHT.
Originally planned as a weekend of parties in nightclubs around the world to honour the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day,DJs4CA will now host a day-long live broadcast DJ relay demonstrating the music community’s ongoing dedication to addressing the climate crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In conjunction with Club House, Haute To Death, and other EARTH NIGHT-affiliated “teleparties” scheduled that week, the Sunday B2B will serve as DJs4CA’s main event.
EARTH NIGHT is a global initiative harnessing the energy of nightlife to generate climate action. Since its inception in 2018, EARTH NIGHT has engaged the participation of artists like Mija, Soul Clap, Jamie Jones, Little Boots, and A-Trak, and many others. Last year EARTH NIGHT organized 8 events worldwide attended by 3000 people, and curated an eclectic compilation featuring nearly 60 new tracks collectively raising $20,000 for beneficiaries working towards climate solutions.
With the coronavirus forcing a shift from clubs to living rooms, the goal this year is to focus more on fun, spectacle, and global engagement than on fundraising. The B2B livestream will highlight organizations doing important climate work and drive viewers to earthnight.orgfor opportunities to take further action. DJs4CA views this moment as an opportunity to reflect on the nature of the nightlife industry pre-coronavirus, and draw wisdom from a period without touring, festivals, and clubbing to envision new, more sustainable ways forward.

Artist: Kid Simius Title: El Río Label: Jirafa Records Remixer: Fort Romeau Cat: JIR023 Format: Digital Release Date: April 10th 2020 Tracklist: 01 El Rio 02 El Rio (Fort Romeau Remix) 03 El Rio (Jungle Drum Mix)
Kid Simius releases under his personal imprint Jirafa Records ‘El Rìo’, a fascinating three tracker with catchy sounds. The original mix offers a deep dive into tribal and techno contaminations, the contrast between the drums and the synths becomes evident more than ever when the song gets in the middle, there the synth chords and the arpeggio create a fascinating combo with the bassline and the other instruments. Fort Romeau shares his vision of the main theme, putting emphasis on the synths mentalism, but unfortunately the edit of many elements made lost the vibe of the original theme. The EP is closed with a great ‘Jungle Drum Mix’ where the artist goes totally into tribal influences.
