Stelios Vassiloudis ‘Videotape EP’

Artist: Stelios Vassiloudis
Title: Videotape EP
Label: Balance Music
Cat. #: BALANCE009EP
Format: Digital
Release Date: 22nd May 2020
Tracklist:

  1. Building Better Worlds
  2. Supermodel
  3. Tunnel Vision
  4. Manual

Greek producer Stelios Vassiloudis joins up with Balance Music to release four deep, melodic cuts entitled ‘Videotape’ EP.

Hailing from Greece, Stelios Vassiloudis has always been operating on the fringes of what is considered progressive house. A quick glance at his discography will reveal an artist who has come a long way since those earlier releases on Bedrock. Today he’s making a name for himself as a highly cerebral practitioner of deep techno productions. On what might be Balance Music’s most noetic outing, Vassiloudis has crafted four immersive cuts that showcase his maturation as a highly-skilled engineer, and thoughtful producer. With this release, we expect the Greek’s profile to reach into new territories within dance music.

There is something ethereal emanating from ‘Building Better Worlds’. The atmosphere is so thick it hangs over the track like a dense mist, and it exudes comforting energy. It is deep techno in aesthetic, but progressive in its message, this is Stelios at his cerebral best.

As soon as the first soft thudding kick appears, you know that ‘Supermodel’ is something special. For the first three minutes, it builds a palpable tension that is only amplified by cleansing percussive hits and distant guitars. Once the thick and low bass synth arrives, you will feel a release that turns into euphoria, with every melodic movement. This is timeless electronic music.

‘Tunnel Vision’ presents something different. A softly tuned broken beat clears the way for elegant effects and a gently delivered robotic vocal. The bass feels like it could untether itself at any minute and float away, like a heavy yet flexible rubber balloon. There is something therapeutic about the whole experience that will demand repeated listens.

And, to round off the EP we have the 80s inspired electro stylings of ‘Manual’ featuring wavering synth patterns, delightful stabbing melodies and emotive chords that makes you feel like you are cruising the streets of Miami with Tubbs and Crockett…

EARTH NIGHT events hosts a 100 DJ back-to-back relay this Sunda

EARTH NIGHT events hosts a 100 DJ back-to-back relay in conjunction with DJs For Climate Action.

Eli Soul Clap, one of the founders of EARTH NIGHT and early ambassador for DJs For Climate Action is one of the collective minds behind this event, which will be the largest global back-to-back (B2B) set on record.

Over 100 DJs playing live from more than 50 cities worldwide across 10 hours in celebration of the third annual EARTH NIGHT, to honour the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day.

A demonstration of global collaboration

Sunday April 26th 2020

15:00 – 01:00 GMT / 10:00 – 20:00 EDT

On April 26th 2020, DJs For Climate Action (DJs4CA) will broadcast the largest global back-to-back (B2B) set on record, with over 100 DJs playing live from more than 50 cities worldwide in celebration of the third annual EARTH NIGHT.

Originally planned as a weekend of parties in nightclubs around the world to honour the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, DJs4CA will now host a day-long live broadcast DJ relay demonstrating the music community’s ongoing dedication to addressing the climate crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In conjunction with Club House, Haute To Death, and other EARTH NIGHT-affiliated “teleparties” scheduled that week, the Sunday B2B will serve as DJs4CA’s main event.

EARTH NIGHT is a global initiative harnessing the energy of nightlife to generate climate action. Since its inception in 2018, EARTH NIGHT has engaged the participation of artists like Mija, Soul Clap, Jamie Jones, Little Boots, and A-Trak, and many others. Last year EARTH NIGHT organized 8 events worldwide attended by 3000 people, and curated an eclectic compilation featuring nearly 60 new tracks collectively raising $20,000 for beneficiaries working towards climate solutions.

With the coronavirus forcing a shift from clubs to living rooms, the goal this year is to focus more on fun, spectacle, and global engagement than on fundraising. The B2B livestream will highlight organizations doing important climate work and drive viewers to earthnight.org for opportunities to take further action. DJs4CA views this moment as an opportunity to reflect on the nature of the nightlife industry pre-coronavirus, and draw wisdom from a period without touring, festivals, and clubbing to envision new, more sustainable ways forward.

Kid Simius ‘El Río’

Artist: Kid Simius
Title: El Río
Label: Jirafa Records
Remixer: Fort Romeau
Cat: JIR023
Format: Digital
Release Date: April 10th 2020
Tracklist:
01 El Rio
02 El Rio (Fort Romeau Remix)
03 El Rio (Jungle Drum Mix)

Kid Simius releases under his personal imprint Jirafa Records ‘El Rìo’, a fascinating three tracker with catchy sounds. The original mix offers a deep dive into tribal and techno contaminations, the contrast between the drums and the synths becomes evident more than ever when the song gets in the middle, there the synth chords and the arpeggio create a fascinating combo with the bassline and the other instruments.
Fort Romeau shares his vision of the main theme, putting emphasis on the synths mentalism, but unfortunately the edit of many elements made lost the vibe of the original theme.
The EP is closed with a great ‘Jungle Drum Mix’ where the artist goes totally into tribal influences.

LH365 PACKSHOT Archila - Little Helpers 365 - Little Helpers

Archila ‘Little Helpers 365’

Artist: Archila
Title: Little Helpers 365
Label: Little Helpers
Cat. #: LH365
Format: Digital
Release Date: 19th May 2020

Miami’s favorite son Archila returns to Little Helpers to deliver a 10-track LP this May.

Miami-based, Colombian-born DJ and producer Archila has grown to become an integral part of the city’s nightlife scene and underground movement since his arrival at the young age of 18, performing at venues around town such as Space, Treehouse, Heart, Electric Pickle and Bardot. Now he hosts his own Wednesday night weekly party at Do Not Sit while operating his growing Cadez Music imprint. A rising international talent, he also features as Little Helpers’ local attaché for their Miami Music Week label parties each year. Having previously delivered four full EPs on the imprint and contributing to the label’s V/A 350th release, May sees his further evolution on the label with his largest and most fully realized body of work to date as he delivers Little Helpers’ 365th release.

With ten tracks across its entirely, Little Helpers 365 offers up a slick insight into the Colombian’s musical palette, with productions dotted across the minimal house spectrum. Opening cuts from the package welcome kick off with wandering organic percussion arrangements, resonant guitar riffs, bright keys, and meandering musical moments, before raising the energy and introducing the hypnotic synths and tripped-out vocals of ‘Little Helper 365-4’, contrasted directly against the paired back, easy flowing melodies of Little Helper 365-5 and 6.

Entering the latter half of the album, Archila’s ability to translate traditional influences and sounds into dancefloor friendly material really comes into play, weaving further infectious vocals amongst blossoming synths and refined drums, before winding down with two emotive cuts perfect for soundtracking a late-night sunset or early morning sunrise. Enjoy the trip.

youANDme ‘Why I Love To Make Edits For My DJ Sets’

As follow up of the publication of his last EP on CUTZ.ME, youANDme tells why he loves making edits for his dj sets, sharing his vision in 5 points; below you can also enjoy the Martin’s top 10 chart of his all time favorites.

01) There are many different definitions of an edit. It was first created in the time of tape machines. Producers cut the tape and built it together in a different way to make an altered version of a recorded song by repeating, reordering, or removing sections of the original recording without adding some additional elements. For me it’s also ok to add some small elements to make it more groovy or functional and thats why my definition of an edit is a bit more open.

02) There are different situations why I need to do an edit for my DJ sets. Sometimes I love the song but its maybe not really working because something is missing or I don’t like some parts but I love other parts. That’s the point where I start to extend the stuff which I like and cut out everything else but I always try to respect the original idea.

03) Today all music is available for everybody. It’s kind of unique to make your own versions of an track and surprise your audience with something they know but it’s different. Thats a way to make your set more special.

04) If you take the songs of other producers and edit it you can learn a lot about how they work and how they arrange and built up. That can really help to extend your own production skills.

05) I created my own little edit label CUTZ# back in 2010 because many people and DJs asked me when I played an edit what version is it and where they can buy it. So I started to contact the labels and producers of the original tracks and asked for their permissions to release it. There was never a big business plan behind because it was more a just for fun project. If I have something where I think its worth to press it on vinyl then I do it.
The new CUTZ#6 contains 2 youANDme edits for Jesper Dahlbäck. He is an awesome producers and I’m a big fan of his music so it was a pleasure that he liked the idea to release it. His originals were published almost 20 years ago as a limited rare whitelabel. It’s still one of my favorite “hard to find” records and I’m really happy to re-release it on CUTZ# now.

STRD013 ARTWORK Crazy Sonic - Light Fair EP - Stripped Down

Crazy Sonic ‘Light Fair EP’

Artist: Crazy Sonic
Title: Light Fair EP
Remixer: Extrawelt, Kotelett & Joyce Muniz
Label: Stripped Down
Cat. #: STRD013
Release Date: 15th May 2020
Tracklist:
01 Crazy Sonic – Light Fair
02 Crazy Sonic – Light Fair (Extrawelt Remix)
03 Crazy Sonic – Light Fair (Kotelett Remix)
04 Crazy Sonic & ALE F – Strings & Stripes (Joyce Muniz Remix)
05 Crazy Sonic & ALE F – Strings & Stripes

Crazy Sonic debuts on Stripped Down this May with ’Light Fair’, featuring a collaboartion with Brazil’s ALE F and backed with a superb set of remixes from Extrawelt, Kotelett and Joyce Muniz.

Austrian talent, Rudolf Wrany aka Crazy Sonic is a highly respected producer and DJ in his hometown of Vienna, with a history dating all the way back to his breakout in the golden era of the 90’s. Back then, he met the globally renowned Kruder and Dorfmeister, which led him to his infamous ’Tuesday Electronica CRAZY’ club nights at FLEX alongside the likes of Sven Väth, Richie Hawtin, Tiefschwarz and Get Physical’s M.A.N.D.Y.. With previous releases on Tronic, Sonusfield & Time Has Changed Records, he continues to build on his stellar discography here with a new EP on Claudio Ricci’s Stripped Down imprint.

Title cut ’Light Fair’ is an immediately captivating opener, fueled by subtle melodic elements, warm bass and an hypnotic groove which come together to deliver a futuristic club hit. The groove continues to flow with a remix from Hamburg duo Extrawelt, who offer a reworking rich with arpegiated synths, deep chords and distorted elements which build the foundation to this darker and more sinister production. Berlin’s Kotelett, best known as one half of Kotelett & Zadak, takes things into spacey, atmospheric territory with trippy effects, rising stabs and subtle keys.

Next up is Joyce Muniz’s jackin’ remix of ‘Strings & Stripes’, which takes the disco string sample of the original and twists it into something refined yet floorfilling. Finally we have that original of ’Strings & Stripes’, a collaborative recording with Sao Paolo artist and international DJ ALE F. The track reveals a raw and feel-good house sound, fueled by a perfectly used, cut up disco sample.

This is a flawless label debut from Crazy Sonic on Stripped Down.
