Butane welcomes frequent collaborator Riko Forinson back to Extrasketch as the pair return with ‘Sorry For Everything’.

Two artists with an innate ability in the studio, San Francisco-based DJ, producer and label owner Andrew Rasse, aka Butane, and Italian talent Riko Forinson have remained ever-present fixtures within the worlds of house and techno over the past few years. Increasingly, a regular feature of the duos output now lies in their excellent collaborations together. Following a string of releases together via a host of top-tier international imprints, the pair now makes a welcome return to Rasse’s burgeoning Extrasketch imprint in mid-June. Maybe their most polished work to date, here the pair unleashes two new fresh cuts showcasing a new side to their ever-developing sound.

With pristine drum programming and synth work to go with enchanting female vocals, both cuts deliver a slow- burning deep house sound for the summer. Opening cut ‘Sorry’ pairs a steady, classic, driving groove with floating atmospherics, while ‘Everything’ puts out a more soulful, sleazy, modern vibe. Fully realized, sonic, and mature, these vocal-led cuts are sure to get plays from peak-time, after-hours, and bedroom DJs alike. Another notch in the belt for one of the most consistent duos in underground dance music.

Maxi Meraki is a Belgian house artist with plenty of versatility in his arsenal. Now he lands on the 72 Pixels label with two more of his magical tunes.
‘Sight’ opens proceedings with a deep and thoughtful vibe. The synths freewheel up top, the drums are deep, the keys keep things colourful. Icy vocals add plenty of extra mood and ensure this one makes a real impact. Then comes ‘Eastern Visions’, a track that has deep drums that make a big impact. The vocals up top float, the vibe is hypnotic and the whole thing is full of flavour and feeling. A wicked release to set up the Summer for this rising artist.

Deep house master Phonique gets released on the notorious Bar 25 Music, proposing two interesting original mixes. The title track ‘Moon Moods’ (made with Belkina), which was already featured on the label’s compilation ‘Zeitgeist’, reveals a typical mood aroused by German producers, which has been enhanced by a sax melody that plays all over the song duration. The other one is titled ‘Alua’ (composed with Fairplay), it goes wild and really dancefloor oriented: the vibe is set on fire thanks also to a chant and some surrounding tribal percussions.
The EP is completed by two remixes of ‘Alua’ made by Raw Main and Essence Of Time, they both interpreted the theme with another tribal swing, but Essence Of Time secluded the vibe of the original into a heavly techno affected drum loop.

Matthias Meyer and Ryan Davis collaborate again for the creation of ‘Crying Juno / Cafuné’, a small EP to be out soon on Watergate Records. The duo already made some stuff in the past, we can remind ‘Love Letters From Sicily’ and ‘Hope’, productions that gained a lot of interest and which have been played all around.
These two brand new tracks join the two artists’ styles, getting as result a blend of contemporary deep house with progressive and tech house influences. The entire EP shares melancholic and dreamy vibes, and it proposes two interesting different faces from this genre: also in this case the contrast made by the songs is great and functional to the release itself.

Switzerland’s Juli Lee returns to the MYR label with a new 6 track EP / mini-LP that explores the boundaries of her deep house sound.

Juli Lee has had a passion for electronic music coursing through her veins for as long as she can remember. Growing up in Berne, Switzerland she found her way into the studio, and later the DJ booth, at a young age and ended up a protege of award winning composer and producer Ben Mühlethaler. She has been refining her own take on house music for the last 5 years, releasing music on New York’s legendary King Street label as well as dropping sounds on Symmetric Records, Caballero Records and of course MYR.

Juli’s 2019 ‘Rolling By’ EP, and the ‘Breaking Clouds’ release that proceeded it, were high points for Göran Meyer’s MYR label and garnered support from the likes of Alexi Delano, Nick Warren and Robert Owens. Now she returns with her most expansive release to date, a six-track offering that gives a broad view of her musical palette.

The record opens with the delightfully deep ‘Daybreak’, marrying light piano flourishes with rolling drums and subtle melodic touches to great effect. Next up ‘Polisix’ provides a locked in and understated groove with ethereal spoken word vocals thread through the mix. Title track ‘Overrated’ takes a dubbed out and down low tack, with layers of keys and FX set perfectly against another spoken word offering.

The second half of the EP opens with the interestly titled, ‘Flibbertigibbet’, an old English word for a whimsical or flighty young woman. The track itself is something of a delight, with a slow building groove that weaves an array of synth lines and stabs to deliver a mesmerising listening experience. Penultimate cut, ‘As If’ is a more stripped back and direct affair with a percussive bounce that is hugely engaging. Finally, we have ‘Deepest Fear’, a perfectly balanced and hypnotic closer with a powerful spoken message which brings this most excellent EP to a finish.

In ‘Overrated’ Juli Lee has delivered what is, without a doubt, her most accomplished work to date.

MING, Noble North, Known Unknown and Greater Than Us are all tapped up to remix the latest big tune from Dan McKie. The 1980 label boss is in fine form and now these tunes bring new life to his latest jam. First up, Greater Than Us gets skippy with a garage tinged remix that flaps and snaps about in style. The Known Unknown’s ‘Afterhours Remix’ is a nice smooth cruise through jazzy and deep house, styles that are emotive but still have plenty of compelling drive. MING Serves up the most hard hitting, slamming tech house version with brain numbing bass and itchy hi hats. Lastly, Noble North is in party starting form when he layers in his slamming kicks and big vocal stabs.

French artist Yannick Baudino joins up with Diversions Music to release four vibrant house cuts entitled ‘Are You Sure’ EP including remixes from label boss OXIA and Bizen Lopez.

Yannick Baudino is very active in the Grenoble music scene and is the co-founder of Interface record store, which became a label that went onto sign the likes OXIA, The Hacker, Kiko and more. Yannick is a former member of the Human Body project with Stephane Deschezeaux who released records of labels such as Goodlife and Bigelow. Since going solo and working under his own name, he has signed EPs on Saved Records, Plastik Galaxy in addition to contributions on Audiojack’s Gruuv imprint. ‘Are You Sure’ EP sees Yannick sign to OXIA and Nicolas Masseyeff’s Diversions Music imprint following the likes of Ohmme, Miguel Lobo, Artslaves, Lewis Jimenez and the label bosses themselves.

‘Are You Sure’ kicks things off with shimmering grooves fused with thumping bass stabs and graceful pad swells before OXIA lays down soaring synths, infectious rolling energy and blooming atmospherics throughout in his ‘dub mix’.

Palma de Mallorca born producer Bizen Lopez has releases on labels like Stereo Productions, Moan, Deeperfect… Delivers a bumping remix featuring slick percussion, hypnotic soundscapes and reverberating 303s. ‘Data Project’ rounds off the pack with an effervescent roller as acid-soaked synths pulsate with the rattling high hats and bumping subbass harmoniously.
