MDLBEAST Freqways launches 12-hour digital music festival

The 12-hour digital music festival from Freqways will feature Sasha, Danny Tenaglia, Maceo Plex and more from unique locations around the globe.

Game-changing Middle Eastern lifestyle and entertainment brand MDLBEAST are to launch MDLBEAST Freqways – an immersive musical adventure and virtual travel experience that takes you around the world via a 12-hour, multi-stage online music festival that starts at 7pm (GMT+3) on June 20th and ends at 7am on World Music Day. Featuring international artists such as Steve Aoki, Afrojack, Maceo Plex, Claptone, Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish, Sasha, Butch, Art Department, Gui Boratto, Benny Benassi and regional stars such as Baloo, Cosmicat, Jade x Tala and Antabi Brothers. The festival offers a platform where art, music and culture combine and bring people together through the common language of music.

MDLBEAST is a global creative platform setting the tone for music, art and culture in the Middle East. Their flagship annual event, Soundstorm, was the region’s largest festival to date, with the world’s largest ever festival stage, and had an attendance of 400,000 people over three days. In a notable evolution from previous years, the event brought quality underground music out of the local shadows and into the global spotlight, forever changing the scene and inspiring the next generation, bridging gaps between cultures and offering opportunities for collaboration and representation of regional and international talents under one umbrella.

Expanding these core values of spreading joy through music, arts and culture to the world, Freqways will be a borderless online festival and virtual travel experience where movement is unlimited despite us all being in lockdown. It will bring people together from diverse backgrounds and unite through the common language of music, so once virtual travellers get their boarding pass, they will head to any one of the three carefully conceived boarding gates (stages) and prepare for take off, all from the comfort of their own home.

What’s more, MDLBEAST Freqways will integrate with existing virtual museums and galleries to emulate the cultural experiences people seek when they travel. As such, this is an opportunity to explore rich Saudi culture, art and heritage, experience new sights and sounds and discover things in a reimagined way via your desktop. Adding to the immersive and escapist theme of air travel, MDLBEAST-branded merch is available before, during and after the event in a Duty Free-style area that perfectly compliments the flight experience.

Ahmad Alammary, Chief Creative Officer says “The music industry in the region is raw and the merging of neo-culture and technology creates a new buzz, inspiring young musicians to create fresh, unexpected music. MLDBEAST is here to celebrate that… Music and art are universal. A language that can bring people together, inspiring new thriving, creative communities.”

Freqways is an opportunity to showcase both local Saudi talent and iconic locations across the Kingdom. A roster of Saudi DJs, will be performing their sets in beautiful and diverse landscapes – many of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites – in places like Diriyah, Abha, Al Baha, Al Balad in Jeddah and more. Meanwhile, international DJs play from Berlin, Washington, Miami, Las Vegas, Amsterdam, New York, Dallas and many other cities around the world

This creative exchange, regional showcase and global coming together of like minded art, music and culture lovers is to be a historic moment for dance music in the Middle East and beyond.

The digital music festival can be streamed on Saturday via the MDL Beast website: https://freqways.mdlbeast.com/

LCS001 ARTWORK KOKO - Love Me ASAP EP - LOCUS

KOKO ‘Love Me ASAP EP’

Artist: KOKO
Title: Love Me ASAP EP
Label: LOCUS
Cat. #: LCS001
Format: Vinyl / Digital
Release Date: 19th June 2020
Tracklist

  1. KOKO feat. Quelle Rox – Chantal
  2. KOKO – Your Ass, My Camel Blue
  3. KOKO – Love in Plexiglass
  4. KOKO – Amor Ante Hominem Nascitur

Enzo Siragusa and FUSE launch new label LOCUS, with the debut EP coming via hotly-tipped talent KOKO.

Having recently unveiled a new-look aesthetic for his long-standing and highly influential FUSE imprint, Enzo Siragusa and the FUSE team will now turn their attention to a fresh project and brand new label – LOCUS – with the ambition to create a new and refreshing home for exclusive underground electronic music, just as FUSE has done so over the past 12 years. The ethos behind LOCUS is simple – to explore all shades of house music with the dance floor at the forefront of its thinking. Set to home the very best in four-to-the-floor club music from both established talents and rising stars alike, the first EP on the label arrives this summer courtesy of INFUSE regular and ever-impressive Italian DJ and producer, KOKO.

“I’m excited to launch our new label LOCUS – which will focus on a more upfront house sound coming from our growing global community. We’re going to be working with some new artists as well as some familiar faces, whilst exploring a new musical direction” – Enzo Siragusa

Opening with the infectious ‘Chantal’ alongside Brooklyn-based vocalist Quelle Rox, the Italian’s penchant for rich and dynamic soundscapes from across the house sphere quickly becomes apparent as he fuses resonant synths and refined drum licks beneath infectious vocals for a sun-kissed opener. Next, ‘Your Ass, My Camel Blue’ welcomes fluid electric piano lines and icy hats atop of a snaking bassline, before journeying into the luscious chords, sultry rhythms and resonant sax-riffs of ‘Love in Plexiglass’. Last up, final cut ‘Amor Ante Hominem Nascitur’ closes things out via a medley of hypnotic leads, dubby chords and shuffling percussion – shaping up a notable debut offering for LOCUS and a stellar first look into an imprint that looks set to become a new favourite for many in the months ahead.

KCTDL1199 ARTWORK

Kerri Chandler & Troy Denari ‘The Way It Goes (Track 1)’

Artist: Kerri Chandler, Troy Denari

Remixer: Chris Stussy
Label: Madhouse
Cat. #: KCTDL1199
Format: Vinyl & Digital
Release Date: 19.06.2020

  1. The Way It Goes (Track 1) (Chris Stussy Remix)
  2. The Way It Goes (Track 1) (Chris Stussy Dub)

Kerri Chandler and Troy Denari’s ‘The Way It Goes (Track 1)’ is remixed by PIV co-owner Chris Stussy on Madhouse Records this June.

Kerri Chandler’s iconic ‘Track 1’ stands to date as one of Madhouse Records’ most notable releases in the label’s rich back-catalogue. Originally released in 1993 as part of the Atmosphere EP Vol 1, ‘Track 1’ quickly became a core reference for the foundation and formation of the New Jersey house sound, with the track later re-released in 2016 titled as ‘The Way It Goes’ with Denari joining Chandler on vocals. However, this summer sees the legendary imprint unveil a new fresh take on the production courtesy of PIV records co-owner and fast-rising house favourite Chris Stussy, with the bubbling Amsterdam-based artist offering up two fresh reworks this June as he returns to Madhouse following recent material via the likes of Eastenderz, Robsoul, Berg Audio and Moscow Records.

Harnessing the originals iconic bassline offering his own interpretation on its arrangement, the Dutchman introduces a combination of resonant leads and classy sun-soaked melodies alongside Denari’s infectious vocals throughout to offer up a slick slice of house music, whilst the Dub introduces rolling percussion alongside trademark low-slung rhythms, electric piano lines and dubbed-out chords to offer an after-hours rework of the classic production.

Kousto ‘Guadapipi EP’

Artist: Kousto
Title: Guadapipi EP
Label: Little Foot Records
Cat: LFR003
Format: Digital
Release Date: June 26th 2020
Tracklist:
1. Guadapipi
2. Stanley On The Bass
3. Mermaid Kiss
4. Barracuda Quartet

Kousto will self release on his own imprint Little Foot Records ‘Guadapipi’, an EP focused into deep house. The four songs featured aren’t too conceptual or abstract, but go straight to the point with semplicity and because of the effectiveness of the synths, their laid back mood and their 80s fashinating nature determine also a stylistic coherence between all the EP’s tracks. The only one which mostly detaches from the others is the title track, its loopy vocal parts and the disco influences make it happier and better fitting for dancefloor situations.

Artist: Alexny and Southside Son
Title: I Just Can’t Get

Argentina’s very own Alexny returns to Dream Soda, and this time teams up with Southside Son.

“I Just Can’t Get”; a nice and easy disco groove, punctuated by the catchy hook line. Most definitely something for those summer nights.

PGR027

Hanzo & Yaman ‘Apinya Colada’

Artist: Hanzo & Yaman
Title: Apinya Colada
Remixer: Marc Piñol, Cornelius Doctor
Label: Playground Records
Cat. #: PGR027
Release date: 23/06/2020

A new release from Playground Records is here. This time, a compact Ep packed with organic sounds and mystical vibes from the Austrian duo Hanzo & Yaman, delivering 3 originals accompanied by 2 classy remixes by Marc Piñol and Cornelius Doctor.

‘Apinya Colada’ is the track which gives its name to this reference and is which opens it. Mysterious pads alongside groovy percussions introduce us to a deep bassline. Some voices come from far away. The mantra begins. Weird sounds plays togethers and gives to the track a sensation of fresh air. A sad guitar say goodbye in the middle of the trance. Now we’re in peace.

‘Francisco’ is the rebel cousin of this family. A naughty guy who needs to take your attention all the time. He never comes even though you call him all the time. He loves the rough percussions. The brazen Francisco invites us to the dance. You can never say him no.

The original package ends with ‘The Path’. A magic end for this fantastic journey. Whispers and laughs are crossed by an incisive guitar. They’re fighting each others trying to convince us, some claims us to stay there and other ones beg us to stay away. The confusion becomes diffuse when you give yourself to dance.

Cornelius Doctor makes his appearance to join to ‘Francisco’s ranks and turn him to the dark side. A strong bassline guides us to an acid drop. The snare beats hard. The shadows are arrived. They ready to kill the dancefloor.

The great Marc Piñol closes this release bringing peace and flow with his remix of ‘The Path’. Whistling melodies that melt into flying pads. The groove goes on, clapping and pumping strange sounds. An elegantly minimalist healing trance.

The two guys from the Earth Boys team draw back the attention of the electronic music audience with an interesting album to be out on Shall Not Fade.
‘Earth Tones LP’ is a mixture of house sonorities heavly influenced by oldschool motifs and typical U.S.A. stylistic canons, it’s a recognizable thing if you pay attetion to the drums patterns or by the various chords or melodies.
Besides, the kind of synths and the machine drums adopted show the artists’ desire to propose a solid style, it arouses a melancholic but inspiring mood, avoiding unecessary blends with the contemporary trends. A few tracks are really dancefloor oriented, like ‘Battery Boys’ and ‘I Just Love It’, but there’s also space for introspective stuff, in this case there are the two titles ‘Amazon Prime (Jungle)’ and ”Earth Tones (Down Beat)’.
