Tälor ‘Absence of Freedom’

Artist: Tälor
Title: Absence of Freedom
Label: Motech Records
Cat. #: MT146
Format: Digital
Release Date: 24 September 2021
Tracklist:
1. Absence of Freedom
2. Of The Night (Detroit Mix)
3. HSTLR
4. Àyàn

Dropping imminently on Detroit’s legendary Motech Records is Glasgow young gun, Tälor’s second release for the label featuring four fresh cuts.

Following his extremely successful debut EP, ‘God Made Me’ released in early 2020, his new ‘Absence of Freedom’ EP [MT 146] delivers more quality techno at the top-notch standard many pioneering DJs and artists in the game have come to expect from a Motech release.

After some time spent struggling with inspiration and overcomplicated ideas, Tälor soon realised that to create the right groove all he needed was a kick, some toms, hats and claps, and the title track ‘Absence of Freedom’ was born. “The idea behind the track is that in the absence of freedom you must resist. Resist the propaganda, resist the urge to blindly follow the masses. Think for yourself and stand up for what’s right. Oppression doesn’t stop unless we resist”, says Tälor.

Following on, ‘Of The Night (Detroit Mix)’ is an unreleased track he made around the time of his debut EP which finally sees the light of day. While jacking new track, ‘HSTLR’ was inspired by memories of Ibiza where he spent many seasons working as a resident DJ. The EP closes with ‘Áyán’ which samples an African drum circle and is infused with tribal rhythms.

‘Absence of Freedom’ by Tälor is available on Motech Records via all digital and streaming platforms from September 24.

Mark Reeve ‘Breathe’

Artist: Mark Reeve
Title: Breathe
Label: Drumcode
Cat. #: DC248
Release Date: 20 August, 2021

Mark Reeve returns to Drumcode following his superb ‘Distance’ EP from February 2020. The work was a standout moment for the label in 2020, the title track particularly beloved by fans amassing over two million plays on Spotify.

Summer 2021 signals the arrival of ‘Breathe’, arguably his most accomplished contribution to date. The eight-tracker goes beyond his trademark transcendental crowd pleasers. It encompasses lilting moments of euphoric ambience with ‘Ebullience’ and ‘Silent Whisper’, some trippy mind-expanding excursions into techno’s netherworld via ‘Irregular Choice’ and ‘Take You Back’ and the silky laser-kissed ‘Theme’, which can slide into a variety of different DJ sets. The title track is the jewel in the crown. Heavy on atmosphere and low-end punch, it highlights an inspiring return to Drumcode’s fold.

“After lots of studio time, I decided to change my daily routine and begin by walking in the woods. Being in nature and soaking up all the sounds of the forest was simply incredible and very inspiring. Lots of people have been suffering not being able to breathe, so that’s what inspired this project; the sound of nature and learning to relax. Learning to breathe properly has helped a lot.” – Mark Reeve

Confidential Recipe ‘Hold That Jack EP’

Artist: Confidential Recipe
Title: Hold That Jack EP
Label: Rekids Special Projects
Cat. #: RSPX31
Format: Digital
Release Date: 20th August 2021
Tracklist:
01 Hold That Jack
02 Senso
03 Toolkit 2
04 Starter

Confidential Recipe returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects with four deep and tracky techno cuts this August.

Following his ‘What You Think EP’ in March this year, Cuyi Siu aka Confidential Recipe returns to Rekids Special Projects with ‘Hold That Jack EP’, turning in another set of fiercely no-nonsense techno cuts inspired by his formative years of clubbing in Venezuela.

“With this release, I want to show a different side of my vision for dance music, a tribute to the classic jacking minimal sound and Detroit techno that has influenced me since I started going to parties in my hometown, Maracaibo” – Confidential Recipe.

Leading the release, title track ‘Hold That Jack’ sees swaying synths, shuffling drums, and hyped vocal samples interplay for a seriously heavy techno cut, before ‘Senso’ adopts a more stripped back approach, injecting energetic drums, subtly evolving bleeps, and sliced samples for a heads-down trip. ‘Toolkit 2’ follows with chunky percussive hits rattling around a broken synth line destined for cavernous warehouses. Final track ‘Starter’ ups the tempo with heavy low-end and skipping hi-hats for a powerful and decisive end to the EP.

Ibiza Holidays Donated to NHS Healthcare Workers

https://t4hh-uk.raisely.com/

Together for Healthcare Heroes [short: T4HH], the charitable initiative set up on the Balearic Island of Ibiza, is set to reward NHS medical workers who have selflessly helped hundreds of thousands during the Covid-19 pandemic with a free stay on the White Isle at the end of the summer.

The British nation’s beloved healthcare institution celebrated its 73rd birthday in July and in further good news it has been confirmed that 50 NHS workers from Hospitals such as Birmingham and Royal Oldham Hospital in Manchester will be able to enjoy a much-deserved break on Ibiza.

12 months on from its official launch, the T4HH campaign has successfully secured 140 luxury accommodation options generously donated by hotel and villa owners. In total, these equate to 6,800 complimentary nights in the popular destinations across Europe and the Middle East in luxury locations like Ibiza and Dubai valued at over €1 million.

Healthcare Heroes will arrive in Ibiza at the end of the summer 2021. Approximately 400 guests in total will be able to enjoy a free stay on Ibiza over the course of the campaign, as well as other European and Middle Eastern destinations.

T4HH now calls for support from the public in rewarding our Healthcare Heroes for their incredible efforts on the Covid-19 frontline by helping to raise funds for flights and insurance. A crowdfunding campaign has been set up through Raisely to help cover these costs for the beneficiaries.

Healthcare Heroes will be chosen from the UK, Spain, France, Austria, Germany and Italy, with approximately 500 guests travelling over this period.

Healthcare Heroes can look forward to staying in reputable and luxurious Ibiza hotels including Pacha’s Destino Hotel, Aguas de Ibiza Grand Luxe, Nobu, Hard Rock Hotel, and 7Pines Resort Ibiza as well as properties from the OD Hotels and Concept Hotel Group.

The initiative has also received support from the electronic music scene, including DJ and producer Fatboy Slim [Norman Cook].

Fatboy Slim

“Ibiza has always been a special place to me, I am thrilled to support this project and the healthcare heroes who deserve this break.”

The campaign has also been warmly received by the local government.

Juan Miguel Costa Director of Tourism at the Consell d’ Eivissa

BLAKE ‘Chapter II: Black Panther’

Artist: BLAKE
Title: Chapter II: Black Panther
Remixer: Orlando Voorn
Label: TRITON RECORDS
Cat. #: TRT002
Format: Digital
Release Date: 10th September 2021
Tracklist

  1. Consciousness Of The Masses
  2. Black Panther feat. Milan Ariel Atkins
  3. Destroy The DJ
  4. Black Panther feat. Milan Ariel Atkins (Orlando Voorn High Tech Soul Mix)

Italian artist BLAKE is back on his TRITON RECORDS imprint this September with his ‘Chapter II: Black Panther’, including a remix from Orlando Voorn and a track featuring with Juan Atkins’ daughter Milan Ariel Atkins.

BLAKE has released his works on labels such as the Chicago cult TRAX Records and Rebirth Records, among the most recent. BLAKE emphasises warm sonics emanating from his tapes, samplers, drum machines, and analogue synthesisers as a producer. In 2019, he launched his label TRITON RECORDS, reflecting his in-depth knowledge of the Detroit techno scene and his mission to reinterpret that original sound while sticking to its spirit and soul.

This EP was conceived during the pandemic lockdown and it reflects some contradictory feelings of that period; the eagerness to return to clubs and social life together with the urgency of being more isolated and introspective while being fully immersed in the studio sessions. The result is an EP composed of different feelings and forms; a trip to Detroit’s essence with its electro, techno and piano melodies. It invites to stop and listen; it’s a call to arms of the musicians’ army for A REVOLUTIONARY ACT” – BLAKE

‘Consciousness Of The Masses’ gets the EP moving with glistening 808s, electro-tinged rhythms and acid elements spiralling above. Before ‘Black Panther’ lays down low-slung grooves, inviting piano melodies and Detroit-based singer, songwriter, and performer, Milan Ariel Atikins’ irresistible vocals.

Up next, ‘Destroy The DJ’ pays homage to the Motor City as spacey modulations balance harmoniously with the dreamy synths and floaty fx that keep you enticed throughout. To round off proceedings, legendary Dutch artist Orlando Voorn’s remix with his signature soulful style as the shimmering drums bounce elegantly with the spirited undulations and uplifting atmospheres.

Dobet Gnahoré, Cee ElAssaad & Bayaka ‘Koko EP’

Artist: Dobet Gnahoré, Cee ElAssaad & Bayaka
Title: Koko EP
Label: connected
Cat. #: connected086
Format: Digital
Release Date: 3rd September 2021
Tracklist:
1. Koko (Original Mix)
2. Koko (Instrumental)

Cee Elassaad makes a welcome return to connected, this time teaming up with Bayaka and Dobet Gnahoré, a world music vocalist from Côte d’Ivoire. The release falls ahead of an upcoming label party at this year’s ADE in Amsterdam.

Elassaad is a fast-rising DJ and producer from Morocco. His style fuses exotic melodies and thunderously thumping rhythms with euphoria-drenched moods. Here he works with Bayaka, connected regulars that have also released on Mo’Black and Variety. The final part of the trio is Dobet Gnahoré, who plays with Na Afriki, a group consisting mainly of French and Tunisian musicians on guitar, sanza, balafon, calebasse and bongos. Now based in France, Gnahoré shared an award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance with India.Arie at the 52nd Grammy Awards.

The majestic ‘Koko’ opens with filtered bass sequencers that recall the early disco work of Georgio Moroder. Dobet Gnahoré lays down a soaring vocal interspaced with adlibs, chants and spoken word that elevates the whole tune. The organic pads, percussion and relentless bass finish this classic Afro acid disco gem in style.

This superb single lands just before Levy M’s Secret Dancers event on October 14th at Club Up, Amsterdam during this year’s ADE. The party is in conjunction with Madorasindahouse and connected and features Cee ElAssaad, FNX Omar, Enoo Napa, Da Capo and many more.

Organisers behind The North of England’s new city centre “super club’, The Lofts, have today confirmed a string of new dates and late summer shows featuring some of the world’s most celebrated and hottest DJs.Following the 1500 capacity venue’s launch event on Friday August 27thfeaturing Pete Tong and Horse Meat Disco – The Lofts will now welcome Danny Howard (28th August), Louie Vega with Eli Escobar (3rd September), Mark Knight (10th September), Todd Terry and Melon Bomb (10th September), SKREAM (17th September) and Franky Wah (24th September) through its doors as part of its mission to continue to build the buzz within Newcastle’s nightlife scene.

Based in Newcastle upon Tyne – the new 1500 capacity ‘super-club’ features 3 separate rooms including a ground breaking sound system from L-Acoustic and a state-of-the-art, fully immersive light and visual show.

Taking place on Saturday 28th August, The Lofts will present an electric night of house with Danny Howard, DJ Spen, Frankie Foncett, Mighty Mouse and Ricky Morrison.

Danny Howard is a celebrated British dance music DJ, producer, and radio presenter, best known for presenting BBC Radio 1’s Dance Anthems with Danny Howard.

Howard is viewed by many as the heir to the dance music throne and his energy and impeccable tune selection will make for a special night come late August.

Danny says: “They say the further north you go, the better the party, and Newcastle is cerainly proof of that!  It’s always an incredible vibe whenever I’ve played in the city before and I have a year’s worth of energy saved up for this, so see you on August bank holiday for a large one….!”

Meanwhile, Friday 3rd September will see the actual man himself, the definite house music bonafide King, Louie Vega, head to The Lofts with Eli Escobar.

Luis Ferdinand Vega Jr., better known as “Little Louie” Vega, is an American DJ, record producer and Grammy Award winner remixer of Puerto Rican ancestry. He is one half of the Masters at Work musical production team and is an all round musical legend.

Next to perform is Grammy Award nominated Producer & DJ Todd Terry who is one of the artists who helped to define New York’s dance and house music scene.  Terry will be supported by Melon Bomb – a house and disco collective of four DJs from Ibiza who have become symonymous for making parties and will bring a touch of the Island to Newcastle with their inimitable style of music.

Hot on the heels of the Vega date, The Lofts crew bring you Toolroom Records supremo, Mark Knight, with Illyus&Barrientos for a special night filled with house and good vibes on Friday 10th September.

As one of the UK’s best-loved selectors Skream has enjoyed the kind of consistency most DJs and producers can only dream of. His passion for collecting and playing music is unrelenting; disco, house, techno and everything in between makes him one of the UK’s most innovative and pioneering of DJs.

Receiving rave critical acclaim from established dance peers, ongoing support from key industry figures and playing to thousands of fans on multiple festival stages have led to Franky garnering fan support in its thousands.

Frankie said today:  “I’m absolutely buzzin’ to announce I’m coming to play at the brand new superclub – The Lofts. I’ve been dying to play Newcastle and can’t wait to party with you all!”

As previously announced, BBC Radio 1 legend Pete Tong and Horse Meat Disco will open the venue on Friday 27th with support from Charlie Hedges, Mighty Mouse and Natasha Kitty Katt.

Local resident DJs John Dance, Jonny Burn and Kev Cannon will be on support duties all weekend.

There are few individuals in the world of dance music who can claim the kind of influence Pete Tong has had over the last twenty years.

As the voice of BBC Radio 1’s prestigious dance programming, Pete has held a commanding presence over the industry for more than two decades  With an unparalleled ear for new talent, Tong has become the leading tastemaker of the electronic generation.  Quite simply, an industry icon.

Speaking ahead of today’s fresh announcements, he said: “I’m very excited to be a part of launching Newcastle’s new superclub.  I have really missed playing in front of a live crowd and can’t wait to kick off with The Lofts.”
