Ballet Mechanique is the musical outlet of Jeroen Borrenbergs, co-founder of design studio Stoere Binken Design. In 1996 he made his debut on Eindhoven’s first electronic music label, Stefan Robber’s Eevo Lute Muzique and became the label’s in-house graphic designer from 1995 until 2003.

Having more recently released two re-issue EPs on Amsterdam’s highly respected Delsin Records and a series of 90s made yet unreleased material on Spanish re-issue label O.C.D. (Open Channel for Dreamers) ‘Rebuild’ marks the first brand new material from the Dutch producer and designer for many years.

As a man who was initially inspired to produce by the likes of The Black Dog, Future Sound of London, Global Communication and old school Detroit techno the ‘Rebuild EP’ continues the dance / cerebral lineage with two “floor” cuts and two more “listening” tracks.

‘Rebuild’ starts the proceedings with a driving tempo that builds around emotional strings for a taste of classic Detroit inspired techno-funk. ‘Echo Catcher’ then showcases Jeroen’s more introspective side – echoing indeed the legacy of early Black Dog. ‘Share the Feeling’ then picks things up again, highlighting Jeroen’s mastery of a building dancefloor narrative that knows when to give and let go whilst closing track ‘Big Hearts’ is a wonderful, ethereal, sun-kissed cyber-kinetic daydream. Glorious stuff!

Ballet Mechanique’s ‘Rebuild EP’ is released 13 May and features artwork designed by Jeroen Borrenbergs himself @ Stoere Binken Design

Chris Baumann ‘Ectomorphin’

Artist: Chris Baumann
Title: Ectomorphin
Label: Snork Enterprises
Cat. #: Snork110
Format: Digital, vinyl
Release Date: May 4th 2022
Tracklist:
A1. Ectomorphin
A2. Brainwave Limiter
B1. Neurotraxin
B2. Bioport

Here we go with another vinyl strike from Snork Enterprises, this time Chris Baumann gets released on the long aged label with ‘Ectomorphin’, a bundle of four well produced tracks that show a forbidden and oldschool way to interpret techno, as most of producers were used to do more than 10 or 15 years ago. The drum patterns are strong and tight, while most of the synths introduced reveal a monotoid nature, with alienating arpeggios or small melody lines. The whole result is great and that’s interesting to notice that the “inner” vinyl tracks )the A2 and B2 to be clear) are probably more dangerous than the other two.

Noha a.k.a. Iskra reveal his studio skills delivering these two different remixes, the most fullfilling one seems to be the one titled ‘Sparks’, there the introduction of a few set of tribal drums adds some kind of magic to the original vibe.

Enamour ‘Ergot EP’

Artist: Enamour
Title: Ergot EP
Label: Get Physical Music
Cat. #: GPM672
Format: Digital
Release Date: May 13th, 2022
Tracklist:
Ergot
Dreamland
Hang In There!

Great appearance on Get Physical by Enamour with the three tracker ‘Ergot’. Basically that’s an embracing sounding EP, where the sounds are deeply rooted into a particular warmth, glued into the phat basslines of each song. The artist tried something more daring with ‘Hang In There!’, where a set of brilliant pads and synths combinations recall more than the other tracks typical club environment memories.

PACK SHOT Ken Ishii & M.R.E.U.X. - Secret World - Blumoog Music

Ken Ishii & M.R.E.U.X. ‘Secret World EP’

Artist: Ken Ishii & M.R.E.U.X.
Title: Secret World EP
Label: Blumoog Music
Cat. #: BLUG16
Format: Digital, vinyl
Release Date: 10th June 2022
Tracklist:
01 Magic Button – M.R.E.U.X
02 Fokus – M.R.E.U.X
03 Metal Spikes – Ken Ishii

Two key artists Ken Ishii and M.R.E.U.X come together for a split EP that features three powerful cuts with infernal rhythms and tense grooves designed to make their mark on the dance floor.

Italian M.R.E.U.X. is the Blumoog label boss with a pounding and original take on techno. He last appeared here many times, including on an EP with the legend that is Terrence Dixon and is known for his inventive and reliably big sounds with real reverence for the authentic early originators. Japanese DJ Ken Ishii has long been a vital part of the global underground. His Detroit-inspired techno is slick and futuristic and comes on the most influential labels around.

M.R.E.U.X.’s stylish ‘Magic Button’ is a percussive and psychedelic workout. It’s built from well-constructed loops of drums, synth and percussion. It’s dark and menacing and draws you deep into an eerie cosmic world. The excellent ‘Fokus’ is a modern and refined sound. The drums and bass weave tightly around one another and synths peel off the top. As the intensity grows, hi-hats get bigger and the whole track washes over you into powerful techno waves.

Then comes Ishii’s ‘Metal Spikes’, an unrelenting and head-wrecking cut with lithe and spangled synth loops repeating over the glitchy techno beats. It’s a track that will work any dance floor into a frenzy with its corrupted digital melodies and irresistible rhythmic refrain.

These are three well-designed and perfectly execute techno weapons from two of the best in the business.
