Hot off the back of his critically acclaimed ‘Nosso Ritmo’ album, French electronic powerhouse Yuksek returns with the first in a series of remix EPs, this time featuring Dombrance, Mighty Mouse, Chloé and Jack Burton.

Producer, DJ and Partyfine label boss Yuksek has been a vital force in the electronic music scene for the last two decades, releasing a string of albums and EPs on boutique independents, major labels and his own, much lauded imprint. A classically trained musician, his sound has veered from left-of-centre pop, to quirky electro-disco, always bringing a unique musicality and sense of fun with it. His latest long-form offering, ‘Nosso Ritmo’ is no exception, with a disco inspired sound and a host of outstanding collaborations at its heart.

Now, Yuksek’s fourth studio album gets the remix treatment, kicking off with with five variants of the excellent ‘Gorgeous’. First up is fellow Frenchman Dombrance who turns in an arpeggiated, eighties influenced disco roller. Next up Glitterbox associate Mighty Mouse drops a funk laden re- imagining, replete with classic disco FX, a wandering bassline and shuffling dancefloor drums as the backing for the original vocals.

Long standing French electronic talent, Chloé steps up next with a deeper version that mines darker house territory to perfection, whilst Jack Burton brings a chugging disco affair to the party. The package is completed with an Extended Disco mix of the original.

This is the first part of what is set to be an unmissable remix project with a stellar cast which will also include Inigo Vontier, Bosto Bun, Kraak & Smaak, Rubin Steiner, Youman, Daniel Wang, Getaroom, Bosq, The Mikanism, Mark Lower and Jkriv.

Richy Ahmed ‘Bad Boy / Italo 80’

Artist: Richy Ahmed
Title: Bad Boy / Italo 80
Label: Four Thirty Two
Cat. #: 432R015
Release Date: 10th July 2020
Tracklist:
1. Bad Boy
2. Italo 80
3. Bad Boy (Enzo Siragusa remix)

Richy Ahmed returns to his Four Thirty Two imprint in rude health, and with his first new productions since the autumnal months of 2019. Fast asserting his credentials as one of the scene’s greatest exponents of uncomplicated and palpable house music, Richy delivers two new cuts, and enlists Enzo Siragusa to turn his hand to a remix.

A rough and ready production gives ‘Bad Boy’ its instant appeal, as Richy takes a heavy bass driven rhythm and sprinkles chopped up vox and trance inducing tones over the disco inspired groove. FUSE London resident, Enzo Siragusa, is enlisted on the remix duties for ‘Bad Boy’, scattering shiny string motifs and contorted vocals over a headsy and drum heavy mix.

Perhaps the greatest of decades in music is invoked on ‘Italo 80’, as Richy simmers an Italo inspired cut, dazzling with thick arpeggiated synths and drum sounds almost as big as the shoulder pads and hair of the era! A blistering acid line bubbles away as Richy explores a robotic rhythm and dizzying synth motifs.

Belgium has long been a hotbed of house talent and one of the many names keeping the country on the map is Maxi Meraki who now returns with three fresh new cuts. First up, ‘Constellations’ is a busy disco track that rolls on with chattery percussion and raw loops. It really builds the pressure and keeps clubs locked. ‘Lie Machine’ is a more soulful and playful house cut with a fantastic male falsetto sticking out of the classic deep house groove. Last of all is ‘Baby’, a disco tinged dazzled with shooting chords and the sort of energy that carries you late into the night. Once again then this is a fantastic new EP that marks the beginning of a super career for one of Belgium’s most sought-after emerging names.

Jonny Lee, Founder of LNADJ said, “To see some of the most high profile DJs in the world come together with thousands of community DJs is a real inspiration. Although lockdown restrictions may be being lifted in places, the economic crisis for many is getting worse, not better. We’re supporting vulnerable people in developing countries who have no savings, no benefits systems, no furlough! These communities need our help now more than ever so I urge anyone that wants to make a difference and help change people’s lives to join us on June the 19th, 20th and 21st June by sharing a set, spreading the message or donating.”

Carl Cox said “I am really looking forward to playing alongside my peers and to creating a very special musical journey for Set For Love, it feels good to do this for the cause of helping others, with our passion to share. See you all out there. Oh yes!”

Eats Everything said “Playing on line-ups with Carl is special every time, I never expected to be doing it ever, let alone from halfway around the world but it is lovely to be involved in such an inclusive concept such as Set For Love.”
Those looking to take part and make a difference, can simply register at www.setforlove.org, choose the hour(s) they want to broadcast their set, choose the platform they want to broadcast it from and share the LNADJ fundraising link setforlovedoante.org. The sets will then be streamed simultaneously all weekend long, with DJs sharing the link for their fans, friends and family to donate and spread the hashtag #setforlove.

https://www.facebook.com/Platform18Glasgow/

On Saturday July 4th, Glasgow’s Platform 18 invite you to join an online stream headlined by Jackmaster, Frazi.er, Maria Airam b2b Lunarplatz and founder Ivan Kutz. The stream will be raising funds for the charity Scottish Association for Mental Health, who Platform 18 have worked with from the start, and is a great way to come together and forget whatever woes you may have during these strange times.

The stream runs from 4pm until 9pm and plays out on the same day that this year’s festival was meant happen with world class headliners Richie Hawtin, Floorplan, Fjaak (live), ANNA and more all playing one visually spectacular main stage in a unique urban setting.

Platform 18 offers something new and fresh for Glaswegian house and techno lovers and has done since 2013. It comes from the mind of a promoter who has been putting on events for over 12 years and gives you an intimate connection with DJs: everything is set up so the raver and DJ are in sync, the selectors can join punters in the crowd for hugs and even high fives during set and they have done many times in the past, which always makes this a very special and standout occasion.

While this stream won’t replace the main event, it is a great way to connect with likeminded raves, from the safety of your own home, and hear some cutting edge electronic music by some masters of the form.

LCS001 ARTWORK KOKO - Love Me ASAP EP - LOCUS

KOKO ‘Love Me ASAP EP’

Artist: KOKO
Title: Love Me ASAP EP
Label: LOCUS
Cat. #: LCS001
Format: Vinyl / Digital
Release Date: 19th June 2020
Tracklist

  1. KOKO feat. Quelle Rox – Chantal
  2. KOKO – Your Ass, My Camel Blue
  3. KOKO – Love in Plexiglass
  4. KOKO – Amor Ante Hominem Nascitur

Enzo Siragusa and FUSE launch new label LOCUS, with the debut EP coming via hotly-tipped talent KOKO.

Having recently unveiled a new-look aesthetic for his long-standing and highly influential FUSE imprint, Enzo Siragusa and the FUSE team will now turn their attention to a fresh project and brand new label – LOCUS – with the ambition to create a new and refreshing home for exclusive underground electronic music, just as FUSE has done so over the past 12 years. The ethos behind LOCUS is simple – to explore all shades of house music with the dance floor at the forefront of its thinking. Set to home the very best in four-to-the-floor club music from both established talents and rising stars alike, the first EP on the label arrives this summer courtesy of INFUSE regular and ever-impressive Italian DJ and producer, KOKO.

“I’m excited to launch our new label LOCUS – which will focus on a more upfront house sound coming from our growing global community. We’re going to be working with some new artists as well as some familiar faces, whilst exploring a new musical direction” – Enzo Siragusa

Opening with the infectious ‘Chantal’ alongside Brooklyn-based vocalist Quelle Rox, the Italian’s penchant for rich and dynamic soundscapes from across the house sphere quickly becomes apparent as he fuses resonant synths and refined drum licks beneath infectious vocals for a sun-kissed opener. Next, ‘Your Ass, My Camel Blue’ welcomes fluid electric piano lines and icy hats atop of a snaking bassline, before journeying into the luscious chords, sultry rhythms and resonant sax-riffs of ‘Love in Plexiglass’. Last up, final cut ‘Amor Ante Hominem Nascitur’ closes things out via a medley of hypnotic leads, dubby chords and shuffling percussion – shaping up a notable debut offering for LOCUS and a stellar first look into an imprint that looks set to become a new favourite for many in the months ahead.

Remixer: Chris Stussy
Label: Madhouse
Cat. #: KCTDL1199

Release Date: 19.06.2020

Kerri Chandler and Troy Denari’s ‘The Way It Goes (Track 1)’ is remixed by PIV co-owner Chris Stussy on Madhouse Records this June.

Kerri Chandler’s iconic ‘Track 1’ stands to date as one of Madhouse Records’ most notable releases in the label’s rich back-catalogue. Originally released in 1993 as part of the Atmosphere EP Vol 1, ‘Track 1’ quickly became a core reference for the foundation and formation of the New Jersey house sound, with the track later re-released in 2016 titled as ‘The Way It Goes’ with Denari joining Chandler on vocals. However, this summer sees the legendary imprint unveil a new fresh take on the production courtesy of PIV records co-owner and fast-rising house favourite Chris Stussy, with the bubbling Amsterdam-based artist offering up two fresh reworks this June as he returns to Madhouse following recent material via the likes of Eastenderz, Robsoul, Berg Audio and Moscow Records.

Harnessing the originals iconic bassline offering his own interpretation on its arrangement, the Dutchman introduces a combination of resonant leads and classy sun-soaked melodies alongside Denari’s infectious vocals throughout to offer up a slick slice of house music, whilst the Dub introduces rolling percussion alongside trademark low-slung rhythms, electric piano lines and dubbed-out chords to offer an after-hours rework of the classic production.

PGR027

Hanzo & Yaman ‘Apinya Colada’

Artist: Hanzo & Yaman
Title: Apinya Colada
Remixer: Marc Piñol, Cornelius Doctor
Label: Playground Records
Cat. #: PGR027
Release date: 23/06/2020

A new release from Playground Records is here. This time, a compact Ep packed with organic sounds and mystical vibes from the Austrian duo Hanzo & Yaman, delivering 3 originals accompanied by 2 classy remixes by Marc Piñol and Cornelius Doctor.

‘Apinya Colada’ is the track which gives its name to this reference and is which opens it. Mysterious pads alongside groovy percussions introduce us to a deep bassline. Some voices come from far away. The mantra begins. Weird sounds plays togethers and gives to the track a sensation of fresh air. A sad guitar say goodbye in the middle of the trance. Now we’re in peace.

‘Francisco’ is the rebel cousin of this family. A naughty guy who needs to take your attention all the time. He never comes even though you call him all the time. He loves the rough percussions. The brazen Francisco invites us to the dance. You can never say him no.

The original package ends with ‘The Path’. A magic end for this fantastic journey. Whispers and laughs are crossed by an incisive guitar. They’re fighting each others trying to convince us, some claims us to stay there and other ones beg us to stay away. The confusion becomes diffuse when you give yourself to dance.

Cornelius Doctor makes his appearance to join to ‘Francisco’s ranks and turn him to the dark side. A strong bassline guides us to an acid drop. The snare beats hard. The shadows are arrived. They ready to kill the dancefloor.

The great Marc Piñol closes this release bringing peace and flow with his remix of ‘The Path’. Whistling melodies that melt into flying pads. The groove goes on, clapping and pumping strange sounds. An elegantly minimalist healing trance.
