Fabio Florido recruits an all-star cast of remixers for the latest release on Runa.

Based in Berlin, Fabio Florido is a DJ/producer who has previously released on the likes of Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8 and runs his own Runa imprint. Returning to his own label this July, Florido invites Luigi Tozzi, Exos, Amotik, Danny Wabbit, Edgar de Ramon, Insolate, Arthur Robertand Marsch to remix records from his impressive back catalogue on a brand new compilation, yielding thrilling results.

“It’s been a little over two and a half years since the launch of my label, Runa. Each release carried a story, a message, or an intention that I wanted to share with those who, like me, were “confined” at home. These narratives were inspired by the mood of the EP, its title, or events happening while I was crafting it.

We are all shaped by experiences accumulated over the past years, which we now apply to our new lives, clubs, and music. So, I invited eight of my favourite artists to remix or reinterpret eight of my tracks, all composed during the pandemic. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Spanish pair Pig&Dan return to Get Physical Music with another of their well-crafted cuts.

This influential and accomplished duo last appeared on this label in January with two new tracks alongside Canadian artist Siavash. They have now been at the heart of the underground for two decades, putting out seven albums and more than 100 tracks and EPs that cover all house and techno styles in their own signature fashion. For this superb new track they work with LIVI, a fast rising vocalist who put out her own album last year and really brings the class.

The superb ‘Electricity’ has got summer anthem written all over it – the synths are bright and uplifting and radiate real heat. The house grooves are irresistibly feel good and the effortlressly cool, soul drenched vocal is a scorcher with a nice rolling bassline adding weight as the melodies soar ever higher.

A series of remixes are to follow later this year but for now the glorious ‘Electricity’ is another standout Pig&Dan original.

Anika Kunst returns to Symbolism in August with the five-track ‘Sin Rodeos EP’

Kunst’s rep has grown significantly in the past few years via releases on Symbolism, Radio Slave‘s RSPX and her Chapter Records, but her presence as a DJ in her native Spain has been felt for some time. A popular DJ with dance floors and her peers, she’s shared the decks with just about every ‘big’ name in techno and has developed a distinctive and vibrant style that marks her out from the crowd.

On the ‘Sin Rodeos EP’, we’re treated to various Anika Kunst takes on modern techno. From the persistent and acid-licked title track, which reminds us of just how effective a single hi-hat can be in a track, to the chaotic synths of ‘To The Point’, there’s enough variation here to make the whole EP essential. The ‘just’ detuned leads of ‘Influences’ bring new life to a classic sound, while the fathoms-deep but pacy ‘Rolllazo’ and distorted hypnotics of ‘Back Road’ round things out stylishly.

Part two of Anchoret’s ‘Stay High’ releases remixes of Jay Tripwire and Hior Chronik.

Anchoret recruits Hior Chronik and Jay Tripwire to remix his ‘Stay High’ single. The latter turns the track into a dubbed-out dream, intricate and clever programming slowly marching along its cavernous synth hits. Hior Chronik then provides two versions, the first introducing blissful melodies, creating a wonderful world of sound before his deep remix trips the listener up with added psychedelic elements and mischievous techno drums.

Solar Phenomena Music and its sublabel SOP saw Anchoret release an EP in 2022 featuring Hugo Massien and Klartraum on the remix. Now, the 3024 and Kiss And Kry artist follows things up with a two-part EP on the label featuring versions from Anja Schneider, Hior Chronik and Jay Tripwire.

The ever-growing and always kinky techno world of Mind Medizin expands once again here with a new 12-track compilation album, ‘Mind Medizin presents Sub/Mission’. It features a wealth of artists new to the label, offering subtle evolutions of its unique sound.

As a label and a party, Mind Medizin is a place where everyone is welcome, and people are encouraged to be whoever they want to be. The core values behind the concept are about embracing sexual energy and diversity while liberating erotic innocence. So far, it has served up a sublime series of hard-hitting EPs from Lady Tazz, KYMRS, Uncertain, Jauri and many more, and this new compilation welcomes yet more forward-thinking talents.

Says the tastemaking label head Lady Tazz, “I have featured these performers with the utmost delight. Because we only put out 10 Eps a year, there are simply too many amazing artists for us to feature them all. Having this collection is very important for me on the label because it gives me the chance to experiment with the label’s style. It’s fascinating to hear how varied regional techno can sound. I’m really grateful to have them on board. They are all outstanding artists.”

So it proves right from the off with Deluka’s ‘Who Said’, a pulsing deep techno cut with Mills-style synth layers melting the mind. Lee Holman’s ‘Death Twitch’ is more unhinged with its paranoid synth deployment, and Franco Rossi’s ‘Psyhi’ is a perfect supple linear roller. There are booming, swinging kicks and raw hits from Victor Fernandez, Resonances (IT) offers cosmic techno turbulence, and Sinistermind invites you into an atmospheric headspace full of celestial melody.

The second half of the collection offers pounding drum funk from Oddible, hunched-over kicks and hypnotic keys from Vitorino and Lego layers up fizzing synths and haunting pads to make for a late-night banger on ‘No Me Without You’. A final trio of cuts from Marthial, Tomas Kunkel and Chaz (IN) all take the driving deep techno style of this label into psychedelic and thrilling new realms.

This is a perfect window into the unique techno world of the vital Mind Medizin label.

Electronic titans Bushwacka! & Carl Cox have come together for an epic new single ‘Music Is Life’ feat. Chuck Roberts on Oblong Records.

This pair barely need introducing – Carl Cox is the globally renowned face of electronic music who was there in the earliest days of the scene playing illegal raves and still leads from the front with his Intec label and electrifying DJ sets all over the world. Fellow Brit innovator Bushwacka! was also there at the birth of acid house and is renowned for laying down the blueprint of the first wave of tech house. He has crafted many seminal tunes, collaborates with legends and new school stars alike and never stops evolving.

Says Carl of this new single, “It’s such a great vibe and there is nothing that sounds like it right now. It’s paving the way forward,” while Bushwacka! adds that “every time this gets played, the dance floor goes bonkers – it’s really special, and busting with energy.”

They’re not wrong. The huge ‘Music Is Life’ (Main Mix) features Chuck Roberts, the universally recognised voice of house music. He delivers a rhythmic vocal and wordless ad-libs that heighten the bouncing energy of the track and intensify the groove. The drums are heavy, the snares are raw and militant and the twitchy synths ensure brains will be boggled when this one is heard loud. The Deep Mix is more stripped back and rides on rubbery drums and bass. Smeared synths bring warmth and soul for late-night sessions full of atmosphere.
