Sailor & I ‘Thinking About You’

Artist: Sailor & I
Title: Thinking About You
Remixer: Radio Slave featuring Thomas Gandey
Label: METAPHYSICAL
Cat. #: MP015
Format: Digital
Release Date: 17th September 2021

‘Thinking About You’ from Sailor & I’s acclaimed ‘Diving For Lost Treasure’ gets a heavyweight remix by Berlin techno mainstay Radio Slave featuring Thomas Gandey.

The debut album from Swedish singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Sailor & I is a seamless fusion of indie songwriting and electronic production. It’s a record packed with emotion and dreamy grooves that are utterly engaging. Now, it gets reworked for the dancefloor by one of techno’s most assured artists in Radio Slave.

The Rekids boss, born Matt Edwards, has been deeply entrenched in the scene for decades. His label is a techno tour de force, and his productions range from big, acid-tinged rave tracks to loopy, rolling, and atmospheric techno. Whatever he does, comes with a signature sound design that always makes an impact.

For this excellent remix he pairs powerful drums with emotive vocals and keys courtesy of Thomas Gandey, trappingyouinahypnoticgroovepepperedwithlushhitsandbrightlate-nightmelodies.It’sa perfect track to lock dance floors in and take them to a higher plane.

Alongside the Thomas Gandey rework from July, this is a second superb remix on METAPHYSICAL.

Alex Over ‘002’

Artist: Alex Over
Title: 002
Label: Perpetual Collective
Cat. #: 002
Format: Digital
Release Date: 17th September 2021
Tracklist:
1. Lucid
2. Frolic
3. Coaxing

Alex Over continues to build momentum on his new Perpetual Collective label with a second superb EP of subversive electronic music.

This label is a place for Alex Over to take control of his own vast output. He is a prolific artist who is deeply immersed in the scene as a remixer, host of the U-Turn podcast, and experimental producer who has shared stages with the likes of James Zabiela. This fantastic EP came off the back of the second UK lockdown. The artist produced the three tracks with real intent and careful design, taking bits of recordings from his own sound library and developing them into genre-breaking weapons.

Opener ‘Lucid’ is a brilliantly constructed track that pairs raw, lo-fi and edgy drums with serene pad work. The zoned-out melodies bring a dreamy quality to the physical grooves and make for something truly fresh. ‘Frolic’ is another bristling track that somehow fuses techno, house and breakbeat into something subtly euphoric thanks to the bright, trance-like chords. It’s experimental in design but hugely effective, and ‘Coaxing’ closes down with a flurry of breaks. They’re packed with energy that then dissipates during a glassy melodic breakdown before kicking once again next to a turbocharged, face-melting bassline.

This is another fascinating EP from Alex Over and another solid step for this fledgling label.

Dashiell is a devotee to glitch & minimal musical styles, which shine through in his ‘Going Nowhere Fast’ EP on Melbourne label Felt Sense Records. Roland Leesker ‘No Way Out’

Artist: Roland Leesker
Title: No Way Out
Label: Get Physical Music
Cat. #: GPM640
Format: Vinyl, digital
Release Date: 10th September 2021
Tracklist
:
01 Roland Leesker – No Way Out
02 Roland Leesker – No Way Out (Scan7 No Way Out Remix)
03 Roland Leesker – No Way Out (Francesco Tristano No Hay Marcha Atrás Remix)

Roland Leesker makes another essential outing on Get Physical with new single ‘No Way Out.’ Landing on vinyl and digital, it comes with remixes from Detroit heroes Scan7 and the multi-faceted Francesco Tristano.

Leesker most recently appeared on the mighty Get Physical with his collaborative Roland Clark release ‘WTF!’ last summer and with his superb cover of ‘Crazy’ towards the close of the year. Now he is back with what could be his most significant release to date, a record co-produced with Neil Barber at Hot Kitchen Studios in Berlin.

‘No Way Out’ is a classically informed house tune with jacking drums and warm, rich basslines. An old school, Chicago-style male vocal brings a sense of edginess while twitchy synths and smooth chords are sure to get hands in the air.

Motor City collective Scan7 is a perfect choice to remix. They bring all the fearlessness, electronic soul, and staunchly underground sounds that have made them scene icons for 20 years. Their superb remix is deep and dynamic. Synth strings bring a sense of soul and serenity, glossy pads layer in human emotions, and the drums brim with vitality.

Francesco Tristano is a pianist and composer who always brings elegance to his music. He draws on a classical and jazz understanding to cook up experimental electronic music for the likes of InFine, Deutsche Grammophon and Sony Classical. He flips the track into a seductive piece of minimalism. The scuffed hi-hats, broken drums, and louche chords add up to a graceful, floating rhythm. It suspends you in mid-air as a female voice whispers and giggles in your ear with a playful sense of charm.

The ‘No Way Out’ package is a masterclass in house music that joins authentic roots with fresh future styles.
