Artist: Henrik Villard
Title: Every Move EP

Label: Mhost Likely Green
Cat. #: MHLGRN051
Format: Digital
Release Date: 4th April 2022
Tracklist:
1. Don’t Want It

3. Don’t Want It (Fouk Remix)
4. With Every Move (Gordon Joe’s Blue Forest Remix)

Norway’s Mhost Likely continues its fantastic run of form with a new EP from feel-good Oslo artist Henrik Villard on its Mhost Like Green imprint. It features two sun-soaked, heart-melting house grooves and remixes from Fouk and Gordon Joe.

Henrik Villard is a deep house phenomenon who has made a huge impact locally and is now turning heads around the world. In the studio he layers warm sounds, lo-fi samples and groovy bass with flowing melodies that swell the heart. He has done so on labels like Moskalus and Beatservice and recently remixed label co-owner Gordon Joe on Mhost Likely. His ability to blend classic deep house and golden-age house aesthetics is unrivaled as this distinctive new package shows.

EP opener ‘Don’t Want It’ sets the spirit in a deeply meditative style. Rolling and lively bass patterns intertwine with jazzy melodies and calming chords, slowly making the flowers bloom across the fields as the sun slides over the horizon. Similarly warm and captivating, ‘With Every Move’ is a deep house groove that wears its heart on its sleeve and takes you on a never-ending rollercoaster of emotion.

Dutch production duo Fouk is first to remix and do so by showcasing their love for deep house. They run their own Outplay Records label and also infuse house with funk and disco on the likes of Razor-n-Tape and Room With A View. Their version of ‘Don’t Want It’ is filled with smooth keys and perfectly placed samples from the original.

Inspired by a mix of everything from ambient to electro and house, Gordon Joe only makes his debut on this label in February with his ‘Luminous’ single but follows it up with this standout Blue Forest Remix. It heads into downtempo territory with low-slung house rhythms paired with delicate bass patterns that make for a meditative groove.

Every Move is a standout EP, even for the always impressive Villard.

Kala 2022 - square

Kala returns to Albania for 2022

The line up includes a carefully curated selection of DJs and live acts takes cues from the heyday of Balearic Beat and spans a wide range of genres and decades connected by spirit, rather than genre.

Juan Lopez, Head of Marketing says “Kala’s intimate atmosphere lends itself to be the perfect place to connect with people and it has become a bit of a family reunion over the years. We have definitely missed this during these past two years and we look forward to welcoming old and new friends to the stunning beaches of Dhërmi this June.

We are very proud of the line-up, there are a few names in there we have been trying to invite for a long time and we cannot wait to enjoy another magical week of music by the sea. Oh, and we have a few more surprises up our sleeve that will be announced soon!”

Live shows will come from legendary disco and soul diva Jocelyn Brown, the voice behind hits like ‘Somebody Else’s Guy’, ‘Always There’ and ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’, acid house pioneers 808 State, fast rising Mediterranean band Nu Genea who will bring their much acclaimed fusion of disco, neapolitan funk and african rhythms to Albania for the first time, while the afrobeat of KOKOROKO and London Afrobeat Collective, the jazz of Vels Trio, the modern synth-pop of Jessy Lanza and the ambient and downtempo of Global Communication’s Tom Middleton will make for a diverse offering with ample opportunity to discover exciting new sounds.

Emphasizing quality over quantity, the top DJs on the bill are invited to play extended sets, with DJ Harvey, Palms Trax, Avalon Emerson and Young Marco all playing 5h sets, and Lena Willikens & Vladimir Ivkovic playing an all night set. A Night in Detroit, another all night showcase, will feature Mark Flash and John Collins of Underground Resistance, as well as D3 Live and DJ 3000 who will be representing the soulful techno of the motor city. Other eye-catching additions include the wide-ranging selections of Antal, Marcellus Pittman, Optimo, Maurice Fulton, CC:DISCO!, and Pender, Street Steppers, the housier sounds of SecretsundazeProsumer, Lakuti, Jamz Supernova, Ash Lauryn and Bradley Zero, the clubbier sounds of Shanti Celeste & Peach, Skee Mask, Paramida, Roza Terenzi, and Laurine & Cecilio of Slow Life, and local heroes Uj Pa Gaz, Yll Megi, Naam Van and Besa M.

Rounding off the line-up, Brian Not Brian, Jan Schulte, Jamie Tiller, John Gómez, Lauren Hansom and Nick The Record will return to soundtrack the very unique Gjipe stage – a secluded beach forest sitting at the end of an impressive natural canyon that can only be accessed by boat.

Complementing the refreshingly unrushed music offering, Kala will once again be offering plenty of action away from the dancefloor, with a roster of boat excursions, wellness workshops and fun holiday activities. Excursions this year include day trips to Grama Bay, a secluded beach where pirates used to shelter and ancient cave paintings can be found, and trips to the awe-inspiring castle of Porto Palermo.

Yoga classes, meditation, gong baths and beach massages will be on-hand to relax the mind and soothe those aching limbs after a little too much dancing, and for those preferring to indulge in the crystal clear waters that surround the festival site, kayaking, pedalos, paddle boarding and snorkeling will all be on offer.

A wide selection of onsite restaurants and bars will be keeping festival goers fuelled throughout the week, offering a range of delicious Mediterranean food, including plenty of mouthwatering locally sourced vegetables and fresh seafood – straight from the sea to the plate!

All tickets include accommodation and festival wristband. There is a wide range of options available, from exotic beach huts to fancy 5* hotels, and most are within walking distance from the festival site. Having a comfy bed to rest is one of the aspects that makes Kala different from other festival experiences.

PACK SHOT STEB - Broken Rules - Night Vibez Records

STEB ‘Broken Rules’

Artist: STEB
Title: Broken Rules
Label: Night Vibez Records
Cat. #: NVBZ018
Format: Digital
Release Date: 25th February 2022
Tracklist:
1. Broken Rules
2. Ezekiel
3. Ezekiel (Memoryman Aka Uovo remix)
4. Broken Rules (Brine Remix)

Italian Benny Blanco steps out with his exciting new STEB alias for a new EP on Night Vibez Records that comes with remixes from Memoryman Aka Uovo and Brine.

Blanco has been lighting up the scene for over 15 years. He has never been far from the top of the Beatport charts since releasing his standout Staraya EP and always comes with a fresh and inventive style.

Opener ‘Broken Rules’ pairs slinky cosmic synth lines with thoughtful chords that all surge on sleek grooves. It is a widescreen and spaced-out house sound that is filled with colour. The fantastic ‘Ezekiel’ is another lively house cut with its head in the stars. The theatrical stabs and well-treated vocal, funky drum breaks & sci-fi motifs are all richly detailed and designed to make a big impact on playful dance floors.

Memoryman Aka Uovo of the Pastaboys trio hails from Bologna and has been DJing the world’s best clubs for 25 years. He runs the Manocalda label and as well as releasing on labels like Defected, Crosstown Rebels and Snatch! Records. His excellent take on ‘Ezekiel’ is crisp and upright, with a celebratory feel in the reflective chord stabs.

Brine is a new and upcoming talent and his remix is a complete rework that results in broken beats and old-school piano chords. A spine-tingling breakdown features some tender vocal whispers before the loose percussive beats strike once more.

This is a wonderfully varied package of widescreen house and disco from a trio of talented producers.

02 Arenal
03 Tambora

Since launching in 2011, Oh! Records Stockholm, run by Andreas Hansson& Dana Bergquist, has released music from a host of deep house talent, including Lauhaus, Kyka, Mario Franca and many more. PACK SHOT Roland Leesker - Haus Musik - Get Physical Music

Roland Leesker ‘Haus Musik’

Artist: Roland Leesker
Title: Haus Musik
Label: Get Physical Music
Cat. #: GPM662
Format: Digital
Release Date: 18th February 2022
Tracklist:
01 Roland Leesker – Haus Musik
02 Roland Leesker – Haus Musik (Terrence Parker Remix)
03 Roland Leesker – Haus Musik (K’Alexi Shelby Klassik Chicago Remix)

Roland Leesker’s latest essential single on Get Physical comes with huge remixes from bonafide house legends Terrence Parker and K’Alexi Shelby.

As Managing Director at Get Physical, Roland Leesker has always been a vital force. As an artist, he is in a fine run of recent form having put out singles like last year’s ‘Circuit Funk’ and ‘No Way Out’ with Neil Barber, as well as collaborating with Roland Clark on ‘WTF!’ and crafting a standout cover of ‘Crazy.’ His timeless sounds never fail to bring something fresh to the floor, and that is the case once more here.

The powerful ‘Haus Music’ is a muscular track with stiff stabs, prickly percussion and rock solid kicks. Old school energy abounds as a vocal repeats the title over and over and the big piano chords build the pressure. Once the drop comes, it is sure to blow the roof off any dance floor.

First to remix is long time Detroit talent Terrence Parker. Best known for his gloriously feel-good ‘Your Love’ single, he always brings uplifting spiritualism and true gospel emotion to his work. Here he layers in those elements once more with warming organ chords, locked-in grooves and chunky drum funk that will appeal to all house heads.

K’Alexi Shelby is a Windy City great who makes bumping, raw and visceral house music both solo and with the likes of Larry Heard and Robert Owens. The vital veteran goes for an acid-laced, bumping remix that is packed with synth energy and clipped drums that will inject high energy into any set.

‘Haus Musik’ is a timeless package that joins the past, present and future.

DC255

Bart Skils & Weska ‘Shades of Summer’

Artist: Bart Skils & Weska
Title: Shades of Summer
Label: Drumcode
Cat. #: DC255
Release Date: 11 February, 2022
Format: Digital / Vinyl

Bart Skils & Weska re-link for another spitfire two-tracker, following 2019’s popular ‘Polarize’ EP.

The Dutch Drumcode veteran and rising Canadian artist share an effortless creative symmetry, both masters of powerful techno music with an impact-heavy melodic edge. Their debut collaboration ‘Polarize’ / ‘Lost on You’ was a notable summer highlight for the label in 2019, so a follow up was always on Adam Beyer’s mind.

We may be in the midst of European winter, but ‘Shades of Summer’ offers a needed respite and looks ahead to the warmer festival-ready months. The track is a transcendental slice of techno that plays skilfully with tension and release dynamics and is made for stadium-sized moments. ‘House of Lords’ is a vital dancefloor tool and rolls for days.

PACK SHOT Thomas Hessler - Intermission EP- Symbolism

Thomas Hessler ‘Intermission EP’

Artist: Thomas Hessler
Title: Intermission EP
Label: Symbolism
Cat. #: SYMDIGI015
Release Date: 11-2-2022
Tracklist:
1. Intermission
2. Horizon
3. The Collider
4. Hall

Thomas Hessler joins Ben Sims’ Symbolism label in February with ‘Intermission EP’.

Berlin-based Hessler, known for his output on Marcel Fengler’s IMF, turns in four tracks that embrace melody as much as peak time heft. ‘Intermission’ opens with staccato stabs punctuated with slamming percussive hits while Hessler utilises a myriad of tension/release tactics with his arrangement.

While ‘Horizon’, next, kicks off with brooding intensity, it steadily opens up into the sort of cinematic beauty that has people clambering to drop a ‘Track ID?’ wherever possible. Before returning to emotive melody with the electro-influenced keys of closer, ‘Hall’, Hessler drops in the clattering rawness of the appropriately titled ‘The Collider’.

Thomas Hessler’s ‘Intermission EP’ releases on Symbolism on Feb 11th.
