David Agrella returns to his Agrellomatica Records with the trippy house sounds of ‘Freedom Unfolding’, featuring remixes from N-Gynn & Beroshima.

Italian-born, London-based DJ and producer David Agrella’s reputation as one of the city’s must-check selectors continues to blossom as he explores the many shades of electronic music through his Bloop radio show and Agrellomatica Records imprint. Fresh from the label’s second release ‘Robot Romance’, supported by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Fred P, Jane Fitz, Jennifer Cardini and Rossko, Agrella returns to close March via his spaced-out house EP ‘Freedom Unfolding’. Remixes are delivered by London favourite N-Gynn (Pleasure Club) known for drawing on left-field, ravey sounds and esteemed German live techno act and Muller Records/Acid Orange boss Beroshima.

Elastic basslines and tumbling percussion unfasten the A-Side with ‘Walking Loud’ as sinister synths convulse around the beat before N-Gynn provides a frisky reshape with sharp snares, golden keys and subtle, loopy vocal samples on a chuggier tip. The eclectic experience continues on the B-Side with title track ‘Freedom Unfolding’ as swinging basslines carry dream-like pads and fluttering samples, while Beroshima’s acid-infused, broken beat rework provides an anthemic finale to the release.

Butane & Riko Forinson reunite on Extrasketch to deliver their collaborative ‘Mind Music’ EP.

Regular collaborators Andrew Rasse, aka Butane, and Italian DJ/producer Riko Forinson’s ongoing catalog of work continues to build, as the pair shape a deep well of quality productions across the house and techno spectrum. After a recent span of releases via Tenampa Recordings, Fuse Records, Little Helpers, and Bar 25 Music, the duo return home to Rasse’s Extrasketch imprint and reveal their ‘Mind Music’ EP to close March.

‘Hunting The Music Of The Mind’ opens the EP with a combination of signature tripped-out vocals, spiralling synths and rich natural drum licks, offering up a hazy slice of the deepest house music. ‘In The Desert’ veers into lighter, brighter, organic territories, fusing an airy Rhodes-style melody with rolling percussion and hypnotic-yet- familiar vocal work to close the show.

Matrefakt make their first outing on Mella Dee’s Warehouse Music with four-track ‘Action Reaction’ EP.

Founded in 2017, Mella Dee’s burgeoning Warehouse Music imprint has quickly become a favourite for many, serving up quality cuts across digital and wax from talents such as Spencer Parker, Leo Pol, Dance System and Cici, alongside the label boss himself. Following a brief hiatus, the label unveils the first release of its 2022 schedule as Liverpool-based pairing Matrefakt make their label debut following support from leading names from Solomun and Joris Voorn through to Patrick Topping and Eats Everything. Fresh from releases on Shall Not Fade, Sous Music, and Of Unsound Mind, their four-track ‘Action Reaction’ EP showcases the duo’s own take on the various shades of house and techno.

Title cut ‘Action Reaction’ welcomes a slick and classy effort as ethereal lead synths soften incessant hats and metallic tones throughout, while ‘Fix Penalty’ showcases a groove-driven, rhythmic workout fusing dubby stabs etched with crisp claps. On the flip, ‘Orderly Fashion’ offers up a heady house cut built for the terrace as rolling organic drums meet hazy vocals and wiggy acid lines, before closing via late-night roller ‘Typer Thing’, armed with snappy drum licks and spiralling samples.

Robotek Reagan’s second release on his own label features the title track from his forthcoming (Can You) Taste My Lick EP with two remixes for different dance floor moods.

VSITM is Reagan’s own new multimedia outlet. It comes after establishing himself as one half of the now-disbanded Superfreq duo Dance Spirit and years of headlining the likes of fabric London, clubs in NYC and festivals like Coachella, Desert Hearts and Piknic Electronik. ‘Taste My Lick’ was the first in a series of new studio experimentations back in summer 2021. They are the first productions from the artist’s new creative space back in Los Angeles away from the peaceful and secluded forest settings of Lake Tahoe.

Says the artist, “The change of scenery and pace was a massive shock to my system, trying to navigate a cacophony of clashing moods, energies, and sounds while trying to make sense of how to reintegrate into my new surroundings, unsure of my future, while working towards peace with a life past lived. As such, venturing out on this brave adventure into the unknown led to creative chaos and viscous lumps of thoughts combining and splitting like the liquid in a lava lamp. The energy of these life experiences found themselves transmuted into the moment in the studio, as reality decrees, Taste My Lick.”

The original version is a shimmering world of sci-fi sonics, with mystic voices obscured by fizzing pads. It’s driven by a flurry of drums and has glassy melodies reflecting light to make for something brilliantly experimental and atmospheric. ‘Taste My Lick’ (Four the Floor Patch) is a dance floor patch for a more urgent and energetic vibe, bristling with trippy vocals, synths, and moody chords. A quirky bassline halfway through lends a punk rock vibe while the intricate percussive grooves keep the body engaged and energized.

Sitting between minimal and deep house, ‘Taste My Lick’ (Access the Soul Upgrade) brings the song into a deeper, transcendent realm. The mood is hopeful and beautiful, opening a portal to the heart so dancers can access their soul and enjoy a smoother, more enjoyable ride. This is one that will make an emotional impact on the crowd.

Following the acclaimed ‘Funfzig LP’ on Rekids in 2021 as well as his ‘Mutated Battle Breaks’ series on the techno focussed sub-label Rekids Special Projects, UK stalwart Mark Broom returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids with ‘100% Juice Album Sampler’, a four-track taster for his next album titled ‘100% Juice’, scheduled to be released in April.

Leading the A-side is ‘100% Juice (Sampler Mix)’, a jacked-up take on the album’s title track, with chunky kicks, off-kilter stabs, and crunching claps kickstarting the record. ‘Contigo’ follows, with trippy synths providing a dose of silliness alongside razor-sharp drums. On the flip, ‘Nod To The D’ pays homage to classic Detroit sounds, as light arpeggios and bright synths weave their way through silky pads before closer ‘Spiked’ sees a funk-laden groove take charge as unruly leads flutter atop the jacking groove.
