Rico Puestel – Rafa

We are happy to welcome yet another new face to our ever growing artist roster, though Rico Puestel is definitely not an unknown name for fans of electronic music! Rico is – amongst many other things – a trained pianist, a self-trained guitarist, a drummer, a musicologist, a Zappa enthusiast, a struggler, a neurotic, a martyr of art and, most-notably: A genuine, perpetually driven music producer! Gregor has been a fan of Rico´s music for years, and – being blown off his socks by his recently released full length album Obi Thine Xi – had to ask Rico for some original music to be released on Break New Soil. Et voila: „Afar“ landed in our mailbox like a beacon of light in these dark times for club culture! On top of the three outstanding original tracks, we couldn´t be happier to have Alexander Kowalski working his magic on „Axioms”. Once again, Alexander delivered an example to underline his status of being one of the most in-demand producers in the realm of modern electronic music! To round things off we are stoked to present a full-on peaktime rework of „Afar“ by the duo of the moment that is Joyhauser! We believe we have quite the package for you to enjoy!

Amelie Lens residency at DC10

Amelie Lens announces EXHALE residency at Ibiza’s DC10.

The Belgian headliner and EXHALE family will take over the club across five Wednesday’s in August of 2022, marking the EXHALE event series’ debut on the island whilst bringing techno to the revered DC10.

The shows will go down across five Wednesdays: 3rd August, 10th August, 17th August, 24th August and 31st August. Lens will be joined by familiar faces from the EXHALE family as well as a hoard of word-class techno DJs at DC10.

The full line-up for the residency is yet to be revealed, however it’s confirmed the main room will feature sets from trailblazers Amelie Lens, Helena Hauff, Dax J and Ellen Allien, while the terrace will be occupied by some of techno’s finest including Nastia, Dana Montana, Chris Liebing & DJ Bone. With countless appearances throughout the years, Amelie is no stranger to the island, but now presents her very own party “It was a dream of mine to have a residency in Ibiza, I am so proud and mostly excited to bring EXHALE to the island”.

The EXHALE event series has grown considerably in recent years, with sold out shows at Printworks and Awakenings’ ADE edition. Jeran Portis ‘Resilient EP’

Artist: Jeran Portis
Title: Resilient EP
Label: Motech Records
Cat. #: MT152
Format: Digital
Release Date: 6 May 2022
Tracklist:
1. Resilient
2. Succession
3. Pathways
4. At Dawn

Jeran Portis has been a member of the Motech family since 2017 with featured tracks on the ‘Consortium’ annual compilation series and an EP for the Jrums subsidiary. Now he delivers his first full-length EP for Motech entitled ‘Resilient’.

As Portis explains, “The inspiration for this EP came in a time of isolation and uncertainty. It was about putting time to good use, not getting caught in downwards spirals. Hone your skills and talents – with a little practice and attention we can all become more resilient. Though it was written in somewhat dark times the overall idea is one of hope. The final track is called ‘At Dawn’, because there’s always a new beginning out there.”

That final sentiment is particularly fitting, as the release of his ‘Resilient EP’ will coincide with the release of fabric’s new mix compilation by TSHA which features a Jeran Portis exclusive – the track ‘Unproven’.

Speaking about his ‘Resilient EP’, Portis goes on to say, “Sonically this EP is an exploration into delay, sweeping EQ and dub techniques. The idea was to get a sense of fluidity into the tracks, with elements floating around the grid. Most of the chords come from the DX7, with constant tweaking in the mix making it move, the heat of the drums contrasting with coolness of the digital chords.”

Jeran Portis’ talent shines through on his ‘Resilient EP’ which is released 6 May on Motech Records.

PACK SHOT Josh Wink - Balls Back - Ovum Recordings

Josh Wink ‘Balls Back’

Artist: Josh Wink
Title: Balls Back
Label: Ovum Recordings
Cat. #: OVM319
Format: Digital
Release Date: 15th April 2022
Tracklist:

1. Balls Back
2. Balls Back (Marco Faraone Remix)
3. Balls Back (Dub Mix)
4. Balls Back (Balls Tool)

Global techno titan Josh Wink returns to his own Ovum Recordings for big new single ‘Balls Back’, which comes with a remix from Marco Faraone.

Philly-born DJ, legendary producer and the man behind many of techno’s most iconic cuts, Josh Wink remains as prominent now as he did a quarter of a century ago. That is because of the constant sense of innovation in all he does, as well as his rare understanding of dance floor dynamics and mastery of his studio.

Says Josh of his latest track, “Every time I play this people rush over asking ‘what is this track that says “get your balls back”?’ Its reaction after playing has been amazing and reassuring that it hits hard, works on the floor, and sticks in people’s heads.“

He’s not wrong: the powerful ‘Balls Back’ is a spatial, acid-tinged techno stormer that builds and builds until it ultimately explodes in signature Josh Wink fashion. The 303s are saturated in deep processing along with heavy 909 percussion and a ‘slap-you-in-your-face’ vocal sample that will lead to dance floor devastation. The dub version is a raw, stripped down and faster-paced bass jacker that turns up the heat, and a Balls Tool is also included for dexterous DJ deployment.

Italian Marco Faraone is a fellow techno heavyweight and one of the scene’s most versatile producers. He has brought his always impactful sounds to labels like Drumcode, Rekids and Etruria Beat. His remix is typically robust: vast, rolling drums power it along while glitchy percussion peels off the groove and the percussion gets ever more wild and heavy. It’s a real main room monster.

This is no-nonsense techno that perfectly marries form and function into a dynamite package.

Lilly Palmer ‘We Control’

Title:
We Control
Cat. #.: DC258
Label: Drumcode
Format: Digital / Vinyl
Release Date: 8-4-22

One of the most exciting names to emerge on the techno scene in recent times, Lilly Palmer makes her long-awaited Drumcode EP debut.

The German-born artist is a thrilling performer, who backs up her kinetic DJ sets with a quality body of production work. We got a taste of her talent when she contributed ‘Amnesie’ to A-Sides Vol.10 and elsewhere she’s dropped heat on labels including Octopus Records, Senso Sounds and her own Spannung Records imprint.

‘We Control’ is a satisfying label debut exhibiting her stealth-like ability to work a dancefloor with a variety of driving techno moods. The title track embodies a key- driven Motor City vibe, before thrilling waves of jagged synths and ravey effects take the cut into brain spangling bosh territory.

‘Resistance’ builds tension and anticipation in equal parts and is a vibe-heavy tool needed for every set. ‘Plasma’ is a full-force weapon that highlights why there’s so much excitement surrounding the rising artist. The EP closes with ‘Don’t Look Back’, as deep pulsating layers of bass cascade towards the finish line.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have my first 4-track EP coming out Drumcode this April. All four tracks have been major highlights in my sets last year, especially with ‘We Control’ I always felt this exceptional excitement of the crowd, and I couldn’t imagine a better label than Drumcode for them!” – Lilly Palmer
