PACK SHOT Ken Ishii & M.R.E.U.X. - Secret World - Blumoog Music

Ken Ishii & M.R.E.U.X. ‘Secret World EP’

Artist: Ken Ishii & M.R.E.U.X.
Title: Secret World EP
Label: Blumoog Music
Cat. #: BLUG16
Format: Digital, vinyl
Release Date: 10th June 2022
Tracklist:
01 Magic Button – M.R.E.U.X
02 Fokus – M.R.E.U.X
03 Metal Spikes – Ken Ishii

Two key artists Ken Ishii and M.R.E.U.X come together for a split EP that features three powerful cuts with infernal rhythms and tense grooves designed to make their mark on the dance floor.

Italian M.R.E.U.X. is the Blumoog label boss with a pounding and original take on techno. He last appeared here many times, including on an EP with the legend that is Terrence Dixon and is known for his inventive and reliably big sounds with real reverence for the authentic early originators. Japanese DJ Ken Ishii has long been a vital part of the global underground. His Detroit-inspired techno is slick and futuristic and comes on the most influential labels around.

M.R.E.U.X.’s stylish ‘Magic Button’ is a percussive and psychedelic workout. It’s built from well-constructed loops of drums, synth and percussion. It’s dark and menacing and draws you deep into an eerie cosmic world. The excellent ‘Fokus’ is a modern and refined sound. The drums and bass weave tightly around one another and synths peel off the top. As the intensity grows, hi-hats get bigger and the whole track washes over you into powerful techno waves.

Then comes Ishii’s ‘Metal Spikes’, an unrelenting and head-wrecking cut with lithe and spangled synth loops repeating over the glitchy techno beats. It’s a track that will work any dance floor into a frenzy with its corrupted digital melodies and irresistible rhythmic refrain.

These are three well-designed and perfectly execute techno weapons from two of the best in the business.

While still very young, Samuel Lizarralde is already a multi instrumentalist. He traces both a historical and a narrative journey from classical music to modern electronic music, Samuel Lizarralde spent 2020 sharing magnificent conceptual pieces of music under his Böjo moniker, which started out in ambient territory and gradually evolved into a full-fledged club project. The Colombian producer gained acclaim as part of Bogota duo MOÜGLI and was nominated for a 2019 Latin Grammys for his work Orinoco, the album by música llanera outfit Cimarrón. He shines on his own as a solo artist in 2021 and 2022 with his opus series etc , featuring ancestral voices and choirs submerged in the sounds of melodic techno with a powerful kick and orchestral metals that go slowly from classical piano to the darkest beats of techno.

The EP kicks off with the intro track “Once, Everything Was Unknown” an ambient powered slow beat spirit catcher that prepares you for the main track of the release.

“We Should All Get Lost” is the uncontested highlight of this EP that injects excitement with an oozed melancholy that could lead easily to a club anthem at open air festivals this year. Böjo is a deep thinking performer and with this new tune he has pivoted towards pops introspective energy which is sound of today. “We Should All Get Lost” in the end is an optimistic song with a slight hidden French house note generating that little euphoria you need to pass through his fascinating feel of melancholia.

“Blue Of Distance” is a deep techno track with a step by step build up, resulting in a mighty sound avalanche including a 303 acid basseline as the icing on the cake.

Traum-V266

ROWA ‘Cucumber’

Artist: ROWA
Title: Cucumber
Label: Traum
Cat. #: Traum V266
Release Date: 06. May 2022
Tracklist:
1. Bitter
2. Sweet
ROWA is back again!

After a break of more than one and a half years we see ROWA back on Traum. We are happy to hear that ROWA picked up on his fantastic melodic techno compositions, elaborate and colorful. His music meets the dj world but can be enjoyed also by the listener of today. After hectic & difficult times he has come up with two tracks.

The opening track “Bitter” is a silent ride. From all the tracks he has released on Traum “Bitter” is maybe his most ambitious track to date. The melodic sequences slowly develop and create an introspective dance track par excellence. The music is full of humanity, playfulness and powerful emerging intensity. Straightforward in its brilliance and simplicity, yet carefully measured with a maturity that almost makes us wonder: how did ROWA manage to absorb all these influences and bring them together into a vibrant sound sequence which is ultimately captivating and timeless. We see an artist with his heart on his sleeve, brutally honest. An artist who lays his insecurities on the table. With “Bitter” ROWA establishes an emotional connection through a fascinating balancing act which carries you throughout the track. Welcome back ROWA.

The flip-side is called “Sweet” and puts forward an unconventional effort to place the listener at the center of attention, rather than to enforce a suppressive narrative onto them. The track is peaceful and happy and alternates between these two poles. Seemingly effortless the track makes these changes and sometimes a tiny bit of happiness lurks through the arrangement.
