“Tortured Soul’s frontman, John Christian Urich, discovered Fka Mash’s work while reviewing potential South African producers to collab with. He was struck by the artist’s sound and reached out in hopes of working together. “Lucky for me, he was down and created a really gripping remix”, says John Christian.

Having also been a fan of Atjazz’s productions and having a chance to meet the producer at a festival in South Africa, John Christian contacted him to work on the track. “I was certain he would come up with something great–which he, sure enough, did”, the artist comments. “I was also pleased to discover we share a pretty strong affinity; we each have a slightly dark and over-the-top sense of humour. It’s good to be able to crack some jokes when working together to keep the ball rolling.”

Beyun returns to her Vault Wax imprint this Summer with four spaced-out cuts across the ‘Spectral Calibration’ EP.

Vault Wax’s 2021 release ‘Our Legacy’ from Black Cadmium picked up accolades such as Bandcamp’s ‘Best Dance 12’’ Singles’ and support from Interstellar Funk, Lena Willikens, Truncate, Anastasia Kristensen, DJ Haram and more, and now the Dutch imprint is back with more heat. This June welcomes the return of label head Beyun with four deep, electro inspired cuts across her ‘Spectral Calibration’ EP.

Squelchy acid flavours peppered with bleeps and heavenly pads shape the title track ’Spectral Calibration’ before rattling jungle-infused percussion, jazzy harmonies and interstellar keys ride a swung bassline in ‘Temporal Freefall’. On the flip, ethereal tones and convulsing synths and get to work over an underlayer of broken beat textures in ‘Finding Forgiveness’, ahead of closing cut ‘Central Kinematics’, a downtempo cosmic journey filled with warped notes and mellow beats.

Drumcode is thrilled to welcome back Victor Ruiz for his first label release in nearly two years, following two EPs ‘Freedom’ and the collaborative ‘Consciousness’ with Pig&Dan, plus a standout single ‘Love Story’ on A-Sides Vol.10, which made him the imprint’s most prolific contributor in 2020.

Since then, highlights for Victor include playing our Drumcode takeover at Warehouse Project, collaborating with Hannes Bieger on his acclaimed ‘Balance Presents’ album and joining the line-up for Time Warp Brazil.

His four-tracker ‘Beirut’ signalises another pivotal step forward for the São Paulo-born artist. Ruiz has always operated at the more emotive end of the techno spectrum and this opus exemplifies his ability to craft dramatic tension and beauty in equal doses.

The title track is dedicated to one of his favourite cities. “’Beirut’ is a very emotional song and at the same time, very powerful. Just like the city. I wanted to make a track that would be beautiful and a kicker at the same time,” he tells of the sublime nine-minute anthem-in-the-making.

‘Confession’ shows another side of his production palette; eerie and intense, it’s led by a searing synth lead and smoky vox. ‘Jurema’ takes inspiration from the famous Brazilian spiritual tree and features vocals in Portuguese talking about mysticism, all the while crafting a belter with organic drums and sounds of nature to transmit the feeling of being in the jungle. The EP rounds out with ‘Omen’, a peak-time piston with a huge melodic lead designed for big festival moments.

All tracks from the ‘Beirut’ EP will feature in Victor’s new ‘Live’ concept, where he dismembers parts of his catalogue and creates new versions of his tracks.

EPM’s 99th release looks to the future with a debut release for Komo B.

Spinning records since 2004 Komo B (Bruno Bours, Maastricht) has an eclectic style between disco, house, acid and techno with some electric motor soul. In general, his spiritual feeling reflects in his love for Detroit techno and (spiritual) jazz and improvisation. Musical influences come from the USA (Detroit, Chicago, New York) and F Communications, Peacefrog, Versatile, R&S, Warp, Rephlex, Tresor and Dutch labels like Delsin, Djax, Clone and The Hague sound (Bunker, Crème Organization, Intergalactic FM).

The first track ‘Orbit’ is inspired by the idea that we as humans are floating around in space and takes off with classic Detroit-inspired chords. Then ‘Birds Flying High’’ symbolises freedom and takes the EP into a long, building deeper techno realm before closing track ‘Alone Together’ is a more melancholic track reflecting on the time we were in during the pandemic.

Obscura Music welcomes Rez Dorsia for his first feature length project, ‘Abstrakt Lover’.

A DJ and producer based in the musically-rich ‘Windy City’ of Chicago, Rez Dorsia is an artist on the rise as the summer season begins to kick into gear. A regular at the legendary Spybar, and having recently featured within Jimi Jules’ BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, the US talent now heads to Fedele’s Obscura Musicimprint to deliver six fresh productions across his ‘Abstrakt Lover’ EP.

The project’s namesake and A-side ‘Abstrakt Lover’ brings crisp acidic tones and tripped out vocal chops, creating bespoke dancefloor moments. ‘Lights Out’ & ‘Apache Plume’ bring a low-slung minimal vibe, keeping the groove tight while allowing punchy drum programming to catch the ear. ‘Atacama’ welcomes floating melodies to lighten the mood, before ‘Black Reflections’ sends us back into the deep with an ominous analog arrangement brimming with late night flavour. ‘Closure’ wraps up the project with an elongated break, welcoming signature dancefloor moments.

UK artist Sam Holland looks to connect Heart + Mind with his new label and inaugural ‘All Night Long’ EP.

Holland has quickly emerged as a solo house artist to watch over the last two years. His quality productions came on the likes of Richy Ahmed’s FourThirtyTwo, Melé’s Club Bad label and two standout outings on Knee Deep In Sound. He has received BBC Radio One support from Pete Tong and Danny Howard, DJ support from Hot Since 82, Richy Ahmed and Eats Everything and plenty of media interest.

Now stepping out on his own, Heart + Mind will further establish Sam as a vital part of the underground sound of 2022. Both Sam and his label are influenced by 70’s disco and 90’s tribal house music so expect plenty of uplifting disco cuts and rolling percussion in upcoming releases.

Opening up is the fantastic ‘All Night Long,’ a dynamic and elastic disco-house groove with acrobatic bass and filtered synth stabs working their way up through the mix. It makes for a track full of pent-up energy that eventually erupts in colourful, floor-filling fashion. The excellent ‘Hypnotize’ is then a much heavier and more powerful house cut with a late night atmosphere. The synths are textured and tense, the drums hit with real force and the tumbling toms bring a fresh tribal feel. It is a standout tune to make a real impact in big warehouse spaces.

Sam Holland’s ‘All Night Long’ EP is a superb first release from his Heart + Mind label.
