Newly launched Apulia Institute Records drops a four-track ‘Sea Wind EP’ including a remix from Mark Broom

Apulia Institute Records is a collective of young producers and promoters based in Itria Valley, South Italy who, after a few years throwing successful parties, decided to start their own label. For their first release on the imprint, Apulia Institute Records welcomes a remix from Mark Broom, who is responsible for his rhythmically charged techno cuts on labels such as Rekids, Cocoon, We Are The Brave, Snatch! Records and many more.

The original mix of ‘Tramontana’ leads the release with a hard-hitting arrangement of acidic tones paired with infectious distorted synths. Mark Broom’s remix turns up the intensity with stomping bass and rattling hats, flipping ‘Tramontana’ into a certified stomper.

‘Maestrale’ starts with haunting low synths, staggered claps, and oscillating bleeps, fading out to deeper and darker tones to create an ominous atmosphere. Closing the release is ‘Scirocco’ bringing heavy kick drums and sizzling metallic percussion, set to generate mayhem on the dancefloor.

Title: Let The Spirits Take Me
Label: Paradise
Cat. #: PDS002
Format: Digital
Release Date: 7th April 2023
Tracklist:
1. Let The Spirits Take Me
2. Angel Eyes feat. Michelle Uziel

Jamie Jones invites New York’s Dave Turk to Paradise for ‘Let The Spirits Take Me’, delivering the second EP on the newly-launched label.

Born in Rome and raised in Brooklyn, DJ/producer Dave Turk is an artist with a global array of influences spanning electronic music and beyond, all of which have contributed to his ever-maturing sound. Building on early clubland experiences at Webster Hall and Pacha, his following years and introduction to DJing welcomed sets at NYC staples Cielo and Output while playing for BLKMARKET, Teksupport and The BPM Festival. Having developed his sound palette within the studio across a decade, with releases on Nervous, Howl Records and most recently, Luuk van Dijk’s Dark Side Of The Sun, Turk steps things up as he delivers the sophomore release on Jamie Jones’ newly minted Paradise Music imprint with his slick two-track EP ‘Let The Spirits Take Me’.

“I’m a huge fan of old school 90s house and approached both tracks with similar vibes. ‘Let The Spirits Take Me’ has more of a melodic yet hypnotic touch to it with the melody. As for ‘Angel Eyes’, it focuses more on the vocal, which my good friend Michelle Uziel absolutely finessed it with class.” – Dave Turk.

Title track ‘Let The Spirits Take Me’ is a production encapsulating the Paradise sound, with hypnotic synths and warped vocal murmurs ebbing and flowing amongst sharp stabs and rolling drums for an engrossing slice of house music made for Terrace’s, while ‘Angel Eyes’ builds on snaking low-end grooves and slinking drums to unleash Michelle Uziel’s captivating vocals for a release of dancefloor serotonin.

Format: Vinyl/Digital
Release Date: 7th April 2023
Tracklist:
01 Wild Life (Disco Mix)
02 Wild Life (Dub Mix)

Radio Slave drops ‘Wild Life’ on Rekids this April.

Following the recently dropped ‘Strobe Queen’, which picked up support from Honey Dijon, Sean Johnston, Laurent Garnier, BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong and Danny Howard amongst many more, Radio Slave returns with another standout House cut ‘Wild Life’, turning in two exceptional Disco and Dub mixes.

“I’ve always adored the “Wildpitch” era of DJ Pierre, Roy Davis Jnr, DJ Duke and labels like Power Music It’s definitely influenced my work as Radio Slave and “Wild Life” started out as a nod to that early nighties sound. Conceived during the pandemic, I had the track mapped out and then with help of a good friend I decided to add live bass, loads of analogue keyboards and record the whole thing live and it became this super funky disco jam.” Radio Slave

Radio Slave aka Matt Edwards is one of dance music’s undisputed heavyweights. Having made his name as a DJ in the 90s, he went on to become the king of edits, twisting pop, R&B and indie cuts into essential versions that consistently set clubs alight. Since the mid-2000s, Edwards’ originals have helped define modern dance music, tackling techno, house, breakbeat, minimal and disco whilst exploring dub, balearic sounds and ambient across the myriad of other aliases and projects.

N1NJA ‘A Frequency Illusion EP’

Artist: N1NJA
Title: A Frequency Illusion EP
Label: Mobilee Records
Cat. #: Mobilee270
Format: Digital
Release Date: 7th April 2023
Tracklist:
1. A Frequency Illusion
2. London Blues

London-born artist N1NJA debuts on Mobilee Records with a mesmerising melodic techno offering, ‘A Frequency Illusion’.

Described by DJ Mag as a ‘mega-talented, fast-rising star’, DJ, podcaster and producer N1NJA, whose real name is Farah Nanji, is heavily influenced by her roots from the Indian and African subcontinents, which come together in her DJ sets and productions, the latest of which is for the Mobilee imprint.

“Based on the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon, ‘A Frequency Illusion’ is a hypnotic progressive techno track that draws inspiration from the elusive, mysterious nature of ninjas and how sound can alter the perception of time and space” – N1NJA.

The title track ‘A Frequency Illusion’ is a spellbinding ride through euphoric soundscapes that transport the listener to a starry landscape. Glistening synth leads, soaring pads and organic percussion coalesce in a hypnotising fashion that mirrors the fluidity of a ninja.

Next up, ‘London Blues’ is a slow-blooming cut that ventures into sparser electronic territories. Cavernous bass stabs and tribal drums are guided by a clean blues guitar lead that ebbs and flows between the intricate pockets of space, making for a moving finale inspired by the streets of London.

Farah’s impact extends beyond her artistic endeavours; her TEDx Talk on overcoming neurodiversity as a musician and interviews with industry heavyweights like Carl Cox and Alan Fitzpatrick on her number one podcast series Mission Makers have shed light on much of the underground music scene’s biggest misconceptions.

Karyendasoul ‘WL4OM’

Artist: Karyendasoul
Title: WL4OM (We Live 4 Our Music)
Label: Mayonie Productions
Cat. #: MP10
Format: Digital
Release Date: 7th April 2023

South African house pioneer Karyendasoul serves up his debut album, WL4OM (We Live 4 Our Music) this April.

Karyendasoul hails from a small town in the Eastern Cape Province and soon started making moves after his first tune in 2016. He was picked out by Kenny Dope to be included on the Dopewax Approved compilation for ADE and since then has taken Afro house to new heights on labels like Defected’s Sondela Recordings. He has collaborated with Black Coffee and had tune of the week on Apple Music. 2022 saw him release his biggest project to date, the ‘Imizamo EP’ on Mayonie Productions. This release debut at number 1 on Apple Music with the lead single ‘iMali’ in collaboration with Grammy award winner Zakes Bantwini & Nana Atta reaching platinum status and enjoyed 5 weeks at number 1 on South African radio charts. His debut album finds him collaborating with a range of talents and is a superb window into his unique take on house music.

‘WL4OM’ kicks off with the title track, a collaboration with Bokkieult featuring the beautiful voice of Sai hle. The song gets straight to your heart as the soaring vocals ring out with angelic charm over deep and shuffling Afro house. ‘Waves of Mercy’ with Miči is a sublime six-minute slow burner that builds through cosmic ambient pads and silky vocals. The drums grow more prominent throughout as the spiritual mood sweeps you off your feet. ‘Umthandazo‘ with Ami Faku again shows off Karyendasoul’s deft production skills with elegant drum sounds and rich synths topped off by the sort of vocals that melt the soul.

‘Something More’ featuring Jordan Arts has intimate vocal whispers over icy hi hats and house grooves peppered with delicate percussion as the wispy synths bring a sense of tenderness. Karyendasoul & Simmy’s ‘Mngani wami’ then reaches new heights with a spine-tingling mix of lithe rhythms, starry melodies and shimmering vocals sent from the heavens. The same delightfully uplifting and warm vocal Afro sounds continue through ‘Umoya’ with Zakes Bantwini then his ‘Fragile’ track with Mići is one of sheer melodic beauty as the cascading keys rain down over steely. ‘Jacaranda’ with Msaki brings the positive and uplifting vibes whilst ‘Juba’ with Sykes delivers more inspired and cosmic Afro house soul. Karyendasoul’s solo cut ‘The Chosen One’ closes down the album with nine deeply intense drums and spiritual synth motifs backed by increasingly upright snares and empowering energy.

The magnificently emotional rollercoaster that is WL4OM (We Live 4 Our Music) will take Karyendasoul and his unique Afro house sounds truly global.

Nabil Hayat ‘Wave Shaping’

Artist: Nabil Hayat
Title: Wave Shaping
Label: FORM1
Release Date: Tuesday, May 9 2023
Tracklist:
1. Wave Shaping
2. Mod
3. Def
4. Static

Following on from the last release Nabil Hayat returns with another EP titled Wave Shaping. This sees his approach to 4 new tracks that are slightly more edgier and incorporates a darker harder sound.

On point with the concept of this EP up first is the self titled track Wave Shaping which is deep, bass heavy and rich in texture with swirling sounds that move throughout the track. Short sharp percussion oscillates through untill the main melody enters and settles.
Followed by Mod which is an enchanting hypnotic late night groover that gets deep as the track progresses. With its loose drum programmed distorted kick drums, flanger based toms and resonated frequencies are sure to get you in the mood. Def is spirited towards peak time and sees the track rise and float through the early hours of the morning. With its high pitched modulated synths that morph along with the bell stab and metallic hi hats typical of any techno track. Lastly there is Static which incorporates pulsating basses a classic 909 drum machine workout which builds through with just the right kind of elements until the break down half way then takes the track and moves towards more centre focussed until it all opens up and again for a final time with elements blending out taking things to a close.

Label: Hottrax
Cat. #: HXT103
Format: Digital
Release  Date: 31st March 2023
Tracklist:
01 Whew
02 Killer Loop
03 Shinids

Paul C & Paolo Martini drop ‘Whew’ on Jamie Jones’ Hottrax this March.

Paul C & Paolo Martini, both active since the 1990s, joined forces in 2010 and have since appeared on the likes of Hot Creations, Moon Harbour, Elrow, Get Physical, Saved and Snatch! amongst others. Picking up support for their productions from the likes of Marco Carola, Matthias Tanzmann, Paco Osuna, Steve Lawler, and of course Jamie Jones, the pair now return to Hottrax with three great productions.

Across the release, the duo’s knack for crafting groove-led and low-end heavy house tracks is plain to see. The title track ‘Whew’ leads with wonky basslines and trippy percussion under vocal snippets for a rousing start, followed by the swinging, propulsive, and vocal-tinged ‘Killer Loop’. ‘Shinids’ closes out proceedings with laser-esque FX and grinding bass under rocking drums to round out a striking release from the pair.

Gene Richards Jr ‘Get That EP’

Artist: Gene Richards Jr
Title: Get That EP
Label: Mind Medizin Records
Cat. #: MDZN011
Format: Digital
Release Date: 31st March 2023
Tracklist:
01 Get That
02 The Feeder
03 The Feeder (Chlär & Chontane Remix)

Lady Tazz’s expertly curated Mind Medizin label adds Ukraine-born Gene Richards Jr to the family with a new EP that features a remix from Chlär & Chontane.

Gene Richards Jr was raised in Canada but is now based in Tel Aviv. He has been making moves in the European underground since 2020 when he debuted on Marco Farone’s UNCAGED label. Top tunes have followed on Rekids and Truncate’s WRKTRX, and each one has showcased his knack for detailed sound design and potent techno grooves.

The brilliant ‘Get That’ opens up and is a classic high-pressure techno workout. It’s economical in design but highly effective with pummelling 909s and twitchy synth stabs, raw hits and a looped male vocal all adding to the rhythmic drive. ‘The Feeder’ is more tense and textured, with oversized hi-hats, vast rubbery kicks and bass, edgy hooks that pan about the mix and turbulent solar winds all layering in extra drama as you race onwards and upwards.

Swiss-born Chlär and Ukrainian Chontane are both based in Berlin. They are new school techno talents with credits on the likes of Lobster Theremin, Rekids and Mutual Rhythm. This is their first collaborative remix and it is an all-powerful one with hefty, dubby techno drums and panel-beaten loops setting the urgent tempo. Smeared chords and plenty of grit, dust and grime all bring the track to life and make for a classy and heady affair.

Gene Richards Jr’s Get That EP is another darkly seductive offering from this always liberating label.
