Mihai Popoviciu is a Romanian dj and producer who has been really active in the electronic music scene, in the last two decades he made some really interesting tech house tunes, a must are his appearances on Poker Flat, Gruuv and Hive Audio (just to name a few); anyway he’s ready to debut with a fresh sounding album on the notorious Poker Flat, which is celebrating its 20 years anniversary, so that’s an occasion to honor two great things at the same time.
Mihai’s ‘Motion Manifold’ features ten delicious and well produced tracks. Starting from the technical side, we can say that the audio quality and the overall sound is well balanced all over the tracklist, but in terms of emotions and creativity the album shares a delicious and embracing vibe: just imagine to hear one of these tracks in a good club soundsystem and the game is done. It must be said that happens to notice there and there a late night feeling, sometimes a little bit melancholic or thoughtful, an impression in contrast with the overall warm vibe.

After a first appearance on the Kindisch’ compilation ‘Steps XV’, the Bucharest (RO) based Emotional Tourist gets released on the label with his first ever EP titled ‘Smiles And Steps Alongside Ala’. The first track ‘Umbre La Răsărit’ ensembles greatly the typical vibe followed by Kindisch: the drums and bassline combination is warm and the synth sounds wrap into a mystic field the listener. ‘Woodstock 69‘ sees the feature of Interlude, where both the artists show their vision of dancefloor oriented deep house.
The release is closed with an ambient version of Umbre La Răsărit’ , there we can find some elements that recall some legendary Enigma productions.

Ian O’Donovan and Satoshi Fumi join their forces for the creation of ‘Rising Expanse’, that’s an EP which features two versions of both the tracks ‘Rising’ and ‘Expanse’. In this occasion Bedrock welcomes back to its catalogue some productions filled with melodies and dreamy sounds, this choice slightly detaches from the label’s followed vibe, even if this style is still part of the sonoric research done by the A&R team.
‘Expanse’ reveals a trance oriented fundament, the long tailed pads recall to some oldschool Anjunabeats Records productions (see Above & Beyond trio), the ‘Mix 1’ shows an ethereal nature while the ‘Mix 2’ with its melody and arpeggiated bassline is inspired by a classic trance tune 🙂
‘Rising’ goes deeper and classy with important piano chords and string melodies, there the drums are simple and made with some classic TR-909 samples; the ‘Mix 2’ of ‘Rising’ follows the line of the ‘Mix 1’ but it’s reduced to some essential elements, adding a deep house swing to the main theme.

This release detaches from the stuff we’re used to feature, but it definitely catch our attention because its sound spaciness and the style itself. The music producer yunis debuts on YUKU with a seven track release under the name ‘Amygdala’, carrying an explorative side of the drum ‘n’ bass genre. Kickdrums hit the patterns with a less frequence, allowing all the other sounds – expecially the reese bass – to breathe in the sound spectrum. There the whole sound intensifies when come across with other influences coming from bass music, electro, dubstep and sometimes hip hop too: that’s an interesting mix which let each track to share an organic nature.
