Following the release of the first ‘Denshi Ongaku No Bigaku’ compilation the label Cosmocities continues its research journey of music productions made from a Japanese point of view, thanks to another interesting selection curated by Matt Soulie. The second compilation from this series presents a sound really catchy and captivating, which really fits to the dancefloor. Afro, tribal, jazz and deep house sonorities gently contaminate the song themes. Music goes above national boundaries, breaking every cultural limit imposed by some restricted way of thinking, in fact, the remodeling of these styles by the Japanese artists is exciting, amazing and sometimes minimalistic.
Nicola Loporchio and Michele Lamacchia under their Rydm Sectors alias return on Cosmic Rhythm with the four tracker ‘Soul Collective’, a great EP to be discovered. Their style shares an emotive strength which evolves in the archetype of house music, melting positive vibes with dance floor alike sounds. THIS.IS.MARGUS is an Estonian artist from Tallinn whose style fuses melodic synths and driving percussion to create epic tracks with dark atmosphere. An established DJ within the Estonian club scene, THIS.IS.MARGUS recently dropped his debut release via SURO Records and this is his much-anticipated follow-up.
On remix duty, Mitch de Klein is a Dutch artist who is well known for hoisting a show on Holland’s prestigious radio station, The Boom Room. His style ranges from slamming techno releases on labels such as Pig&Dan’s Elevate and Reinier Zonneveld’s Filth on Acid, to his uplifting DJ style that is a fusion of euphoric synths and powerful percussion.
Kostas Maskalides is a Greek artist living in Belgium who has been a regular on Phobiq, but he has also released tracks and remixes on other scene-leading labels including UMEK’s 1605 and Spektre’s Respekt. Although he is known for his hard-hitting techno tracks, this remix shows off the melodic style he has showcased via labels like Astral Records and Bonzai.
“Visions of Infinity” is the original track on the release and it opens with rattling high-end percussion and sweeping synths layered over a deep bassline rich in sub-bass. Dramatic stabs and the euphoric tones of a spine-tingling melody add tension to its dance floor focused energy.
Mitch de Klein’s remix of Visions of Infinity softens the percussion to create more atmosphere with a bigger focus on the synths and melodic flow of the bassline. It’s an uplifting rework with an expansive sound that unfolds with tantalising suspense.

Blank Code is a Detroit, USA outfit that have released music by artists like Bas Mooy, Drumcell, Mike Parker, Audio Injection / Truncate and many more.
The Blank Code co-founder Anthony Jimenez has also released on Mike Derer’s Northern Parallels and Detroit Underground, while he has performed alongside Regis, Silent Servant and Developer. “Insurgent” is a spacey and tubular trip with warping acid and intense alarm-like, looping tones. The robotic vocal hit adds an unexpected twist with chanting sensation to this dance floor devastator.
Brian Sanhaji is a veteran producer and engineer in Berlin who returns to Blank Code, as well as having appeared on Chris Liebing’s CLR, Heiko Laux’s Kanzleramt, Droid Records and running the SENSOR and EgoTon labels. “Phasis” is a modular ride of freaky frequencies and crunching percussion. Bursting with energy and raw power, it showcases his fine analogue production with a sliver of experimentation.
Linear System is a Spanish artist who has released music on esteemed labels like Edit Select, Ben Sims’ Symbolism and Dynamic Reflection. “Shape Shifter” is a brooding juggernaut made of raw tension that culminates in pounding, crushed drums as its main focus. Heavy and hypnotic it draws attention with its apocalyptic menace, but its ultimately a sharpened, underground club weapon.
Mexico’s Luis Flores is another seasoned beat-maker who has released on Blank Code previously and also lists Ricardo Garduno’s Illegal Alien, Emmauel’s ARTS and Truncate’s imprint. “Man Vs Nature” begins with a shuffling kick and swelling sub bass, followed by sci-fi bleeps and abstract sound effects. Almost cinematic overall, the scything synth creates a dystopian feeling of intimidating electronic growls.
San Francisco’s Max Gardner has over a decade of releases and is the co-owner of Peer Audio. He has also appeared on Northern Parallels, Oktave as well as remixing Drumcell and Truncate. “Delamination” has a deep and jackin’ stance from the word go, while its vitality increases from the sputtering hi-hats and fizzing touches. Steady, muted claps add even more vigour and the metallic stabs create a haunting, emotional experience.
Takaaki Itoh is one of Japan’s most prominent techno artists who has released on Bas Mooy’s Mord, Adriana Lopez’s Grey Report, Developer’s Modularz and Lewis Fautzi’s Faut Section to name only a few. “Vital Blind” uses its quirky, stuttering hits to shape a spine of thumping percussion. Pulsing, modular-fuelled accents and electronic signals frame the sonic airwaves while being guided by a grungy, throbbing bassline.

Jacob Groening’s record label, Kamai Music, welcomes a new deep and organic release from Alex Twin whose style blends melodic synths with flowing percussion.
Alex Twin is a DJ and producer from Dubai who is back on Kamai Music with his second release for the record label, which also follows up on his recent collaborative EP with Paul Svenson. This time he is back with a solo release that has three tracks ranging between indie dance and organic house.
Along with his previous release on Kamai Music, Alex Twin has also released on other respected record labels including All Day I Dream, Bar 25 Music, Cosmic Awakenings and Pipe & Pochet.
