Artist: Kid Simius Title: El Río Label: Jirafa Records Remixer: Fort Romeau Cat: JIR023 Format: Digital Release Date: April 10th 2020 Tracklist: 01 El Rio 02 El Rio (Fort Romeau Remix) 03 El Rio (Jungle Drum Mix)
Kid Simius releases under his personal imprint Jirafa Records ‘El Rìo’, a fascinating three tracker with catchy sounds. The original mix offers a deep dive into tribal and techno contaminations, the contrast between the drums and the synths becomes evident more than ever when the song gets in the middle, there the synth chords and the arpeggio create a fascinating combo with the bassline and the other instruments. Fort Romeau shares his vision of the main theme, putting emphasis on the synths mentalism, but unfortunately the edit of many elements made lost the vibe of the original theme. The EP is closed with a great ‘Jungle Drum Mix’ where the artist goes totally into tribal influences.
Artist: Ango Tamarin Title: What Was That? EP Label: Truesoul Cat: true12131 Format: Digital Release Date: April 20th 2020 Tracklist: 1. What Was That? 2. Cat Man Do 3. Catch The Donkey
Ango Tamarin is a brand new project that sees its debut in the electronic music scene with an EP on the notorious Truesoul Records, ‘What Was That?’ embraces dancefloor oriented sounds in its entirely, demystifying most of the styles of the odiern techno and tech house. These tracks reflect also the people’s need to go clubbing and partying again, leaving back the past weeks of lockdown.
As follow up of the publication of his last EP on CUTZ.ME, youANDme tells why he loves making edits for his dj sets, sharing his vision in 5 points; below you can also enjoy the Martin’s top 10 chart of his all time favorites.
01) There are many different definitions of an edit. It was first created in the time of tape machines. Producers cut the tape and built it together in a different way to make an altered version of a recorded song by repeating, reordering, or removing sections of the original recording without adding some additional elements. For me it’s also ok to add some small elements to make it more groovy or functional and thats why my definition of an edit is a bit more open.
02) There are different situations why I need to do an edit for my DJ sets. Sometimes I love the song but its maybe not really working because something is missing or I don’t like some parts but I love other parts. That’s the point where I start to extend the stuff which I like and cut out everything else but I always try to respect the original idea.
03) Today all music is available for everybody. It’s kind of unique to make your own versions of an track and surprise your audience with something they know but it’s different. Thats a way to make your set more special.
04) If you take the songs of other producers and edit it you can learn a lot about how they work and how they arrange and built up. That can really help to extend your own production skills.
05) I created my own little edit label CUTZ# back in 2010 because many people and DJs asked me when I played an edit what version is it and where they can buy it. So I started to contact the labels and producers of the original tracks and asked for their permissions to release it. There was never a big business plan behind because it was more a just for fun project. If I have something where I think its worth to press it on vinyl then I do it. The new CUTZ#6 contains 2 youANDme edits for Jesper Dahlbäck. He is an awesome producers and I’m a big fan of his music so it was a pleasure that he liked the idea to release it. His originals were published almost 20 years ago as a limited rare whitelabel. It’s still one of my favorite “hard to find” records and I’m really happy to re-release it on CUTZ# now.

Artists: Mark Knight, Laura Davie, The Melody Men Title: If It’s Love Label: Toolroom Cat:TOOL90201Z Format: Digital Release Date: March 27th 2020 Tracklist: 1. If It’s Love
Mark Knight shows to the Toolroom Records fans another stunning house production titled ‘If It’s Love’, it was made with the collaboration of the vocalist Laura Davie and The Melody Men vocalist-production trio. Mr. Knight seems to enjoy putting out single tracks that rediscover the soulful house roots, mixing them with contemporary tech house influences; this song too carries a great vibe and arouses dancefloor situations of the forthcoming summer 2020.
Artist: Eli Brown Title: Desire Label: Armada Subjekt Cat: arsbjkt126 Format: Digital Release Date: April 17th 2020 Tracklist: 1. Desire
Eli Brown outputs another single track on Armada Subjekt, that’s the way we’re used to know this producer, who publishes a few incisive productions instead of dozens of EP filled with four or more originals and remixes. ‘Desire’ proposes an edit of a classic house theme, where the main chord interfaces correctly with the instrumentals and an outstanding female vocals. The usage of a rolling bassline adds solidity and integrity to the entire production.
Eli has rapidly established himself as an artist of real distinction in the house world, with his records making an immediate impact upon a flurry of the industry’s biggest names: Carl Cox, Green Velvet, Fisher, Claude VonStroke, Black Madonna, Denis Sulta, Calvin Harris and Annie Mac, the latter of which selected an Eli Brown song twice to become the ‘Hottest Record In The World’ on her BBC Radio 1 show. Following the success of last year’s worldwide hit ‘XTC’ with Solardo, Eli shows no signs of slowing down in 2020 as he delivers his next highly anticipated record ahead of what is to be another exciting year for the Bristolian.
Artist: August Artier Title: Teenage Dreams EP Label: Kindisch Cat: KD172 Format: Digital Release Date: April 17th 2020 Tracklist: 1. Teenage Dreams 2. Fluid 3. Air 4. Cyrus
August Artier gets released again on Kindisch with ‘Teenage Dreams EP’, proposing a style that recalls the Romanian wave of tech house and minimal of a few years ago. The monotonous loops are concealed with conservative percussive/hihat patterns and small chord lines put there and there: the final result is fascinating, enveloping and dreamy. Sometimes tribal or contemporary influences inflate a little bit the songs appeal, elevating their potential and the dancefloor oriented attitude.
Artists: Purple Pill, HRRSN Title: Just A Little Label: Asymmetric Recordings Remixers: Adrian Roman, Brlee Cat: AR173 Format: Digital Release Date: April 17th 2020 Tracklist: 1. Original Mix 2. Adrian Roman Remix 3. Brlee Remix 4. Sunrise Mix
Purple Pill meets HRRSN for the creation of ‘Just A Little’, that’s a nice production that arouses an emotive vibe thanks to its tight instrumental and the great vocal. The lyrics are well made, maybe the voice timbre reminds to some Depeche Mode productions, in any case the original mix reaches a great peak before and after the drop, there the producer has been able to condensate well the various souds, expecially the synths, with the melody suggested by the vocal. Adriam Roman and Brlee show up in the EP with their remixes, adding an alternative vision of the original theme. The package is completed with a beautiful edit under the ‘Sunrise Mix’ name, there the kickdrum is stronger and there is tribal drum loop that affects the original theme, also the main melody is lead by some kind of percussion instead the traditional synth module.
Artist: Eze Ramirez Title: My Pleasures Label: Sudbeat Cat: SB168 Format: Digital Release Date: April 13th 2020 Tracklist: 1. My Pleasures 2. Do Forte 3. Reliance
Eze Ramirez makes a great apparition on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat with ‘My Pleasures’, a complete three tracker into a balearic style of progressive house. The Eze’s songs arouse summer vibes and warm feelings, the instrumentals are fill with great sub basses and the synths shine with their high frequencies. The whole sound don’t come from easy made productions, we can’t assume this while listening to these productions, but we can focus on the captivating attitude of these sounds.
Artist: Alys Title: Flos EP Label: Skryptöm Remixers: Joe Farr, Gareth Wild Cat: Skryptom44 Formats: Digital, vinyl Release Date: April 24th 2020 Tracklist: A1. Amnesia A2. Camphre (Original Mix) B1. Camphre (Joe Farr Remix) B2. La Digitale (Gareth Wild Remix) Digital only: 1. La Digitale (Original Mix)
Alice Janin a.k.a. Alys is a French techno dj who’s getting into the music production realm, finally with her ‘Flos EP’ forthcoming on Skryptom she’s ready to make her debut. The release is accompanied by two originals and two remixes. The originals pressed in the A side show the kind of style which the artist is into, that’s quite raw and with industrial reminiscenses, while the Joe Farr and Gareth Wild remixes put on the flip adopt an intrinsic mentalism, that adds complexity and a malevolous behaviour infecting the main themes moods.
Artist: Rodriguez Jr. Title: Bliss Label: Mobilee Cat: mobileeCD031 Formats: Digital, CD and 2 x vinyl Release date: April 24th 2020 Tracklist: Digital Tracklist: 1. Haussmann 2. What Is Real feat. Liset Alea 3. Polaro ïd 4. Blisss 5. Santa Cruz 6. Here to Forget You feat. Liset Alea 7. Monolith Garden 8. Nairobi Vinyl Tracklist: A1. Haussmann A2. What Is Real feat. Liset Alea B1. Polaroïd B2. Blisss C1. Santa Cruz C2. Here To Forget You feat. Liset Alea D1. Monolith
The last apparition of Rodriguez Jr. on Mobilee is given by ‘Bliss’, that’s his third album on the same label and it features 8 delicious tracks. Mobilee has been the home for the french artist for a long time, that’s really appreciable and show us the importance of label families, a thing that is fading down in the last years. Focusing on the album, all the productions feature the eclectic and versatile sound proposed by the producer, which floods the audio spectrum with his deep house style, revealing a satisfying opening to contaminations and introducing delicate instruments like strings, pads and female vocals too. The approach to music production has been solid and decise, providing sometimes malicious vibes and sometimes smooth and dreamy scenarios.
