Kiko Navarro shows through this album his experience and the contaminations that influenced his vision of eletronic music, the 12 tracks of ‘Afroterraneo’ put together house, tribal and deep house coherently and organically. These songs have been produced with the integration of vocals, an essential element which helps to bring warmth, also some ethnical instruments cheer the listening session, introducing unexpeted and imaginary scenarios. In these 13 tracks we can find some names that already appeared on the Sweden imprint, while there are some other artists that bring some freshness to the typical Drumcode sound, that’s the case of Joyhauser who opens the tracklist with ‘Fierceness’, Balthazar & JackRock with their robotoid and metallic synths of ‘Red Village Disco Hustle’, and finally Oscar L’s ‘Dark Fate’ arouses melancholic feelings. Last but not least Dubfire appears on the compilation too with a particular track that shows a particular side of minimalistic techno.

Kid Simius ‘El Río’

Artist: Kid Simius
Title: El Río
Label: Jirafa Records
Remixer: Fort Romeau
Cat: JIR023
Format: Digital
Release Date: April 10th 2020
Tracklist:
01 El Rio
02 El Rio (Fort Romeau Remix)
03 El Rio (Jungle Drum Mix)

Kid Simius releases under his personal imprint Jirafa Records ‘El Rìo’, a fascinating three tracker with catchy sounds. The original mix offers a deep dive into tribal and techno contaminations, the contrast between the drums and the synths becomes evident more than ever when the song gets in the middle, there the synth chords and the arpeggio create a fascinating combo with the bassline and the other instruments.
Fort Romeau shares his vision of the main theme, putting emphasis on the synths mentalism, but unfortunately the edit of many elements made lost the vibe of the original theme.
The EP is closed with a great ‘Jungle Drum Mix’ where the artist goes totally into tribal influences.

youANDme ‘Why I Love To Make Edits For My DJ Sets’

As follow up of the publication of his last EP on CUTZ.ME, youANDme tells why he loves making edits for his dj sets, sharing his vision in 5 points; below you can also enjoy the Martin’s top 10 chart of his all time favorites.

01) There are many different definitions of an edit. It was first created in the time of tape machines. Producers cut the tape and built it together in a different way to make an altered version of a recorded song by repeating, reordering, or removing sections of the original recording without adding some additional elements. For me it’s also ok to add some small elements to make it more groovy or functional and thats why my definition of an edit is a bit more open.

02) There are different situations why I need to do an edit for my DJ sets. Sometimes I love the song but its maybe not really working because something is missing or I don’t like some parts but I love other parts. That’s the point where I start to extend the stuff which I like and cut out everything else but I always try to respect the original idea.

03) Today all music is available for everybody. It’s kind of unique to make your own versions of an track and surprise your audience with something they know but it’s different. Thats a way to make your set more special.

04) If you take the songs of other producers and edit it you can learn a lot about how they work and how they arrange and built up. That can really help to extend your own production skills.

05) I created my own little edit label CUTZ# back in 2010 because many people and DJs asked me when I played an edit what version is it and where they can buy it. So I started to contact the labels and producers of the original tracks and asked for their permissions to release it. There was never a big business plan behind because it was more a just for fun project. If I have something where I think its worth to press it on vinyl then I do it.
The new CUTZ#6 contains 2 youANDme edits for Jesper Dahlbäck. He is an awesome producers and I’m a big fan of his music so it was a pleasure that he liked the idea to release it. His originals were published almost 20 years ago as a limited rare whitelabel. It’s still one of my favorite “hard to find” records and I’m really happy to re-release it on CUTZ# now.

youANDme Top 10 EDITS of all time

01) Madonna – Justify My Love (Lee Van Dowski Edit)

02) Aphex Twin – Rhubarb (Cédric Sheva Edit)

03) Moodymann – ITS 2 LATE 4 U AND ME (youANDme_Edit)

04) Lil’ Louis & The World – Club Lonely (Shield Edit)

05) Carl Craig – At Les – Tricksi Cover (youANDme_Edit)

ARSBJKT126 res

Eli Brown ‘Desire’

Artist: Eli Brown
Title: Desire
Label: Armada Subjekt
Cat: arsbjkt126
Format: Digital
Release Date: April 17th 2020
Tracklist:
1. Desire

Eli Brown outputs another single track on Armada Subjekt, that’s the way we’re used to know this producer, who publishes a few incisive productions instead of dozens of EP filled with four or more originals and remixes.
‘Desire’ proposes an edit of a classic house theme, where the main chord interfaces correctly with the instrumentals and an outstanding female vocals. The usage of a rolling bassline adds solidity and integrity to the entire production.

Eli has rapidly established himself as an artist of real distinction in the house world, with his records making an immediate impact upon a flurry of the industry’s biggest names: Carl Cox, Green Velvet, Fisher, Claude VonStroke, Black Madonna, Denis Sulta, Calvin Harris and Annie Mac, the latter of which selected an Eli Brown song twice to become the ‘Hottest Record In The World’ on her BBC Radio 1 show. Following the success of last year’s worldwide hit ‘XTC’ with Solardo, Eli shows no signs of slowing down in 2020 as he delivers his next highly anticipated record ahead of what is to be another exciting year for the Bristolian.
